Skiing X-Country requires an array of skills. It takes time to master the push and glide technique. One must properly extend the poles in the push at the same time thrust with a leg kick. This effecient technique will extend your X-Country experience.

One can experience the same as regular alpine skiing, fresh air, cool breeze, snow filled trees
and yes, wild deer! If you trek in the woods you will be able to identify their tracks. They are hoofed little creatures and leave a tell-tale prints.

So get out there and make some tracks.

i took my cross country skis out today for the first time this season. the couple inches of snow we've gotten in boston recently didn't really cut it though. pine needles don't glide quite as smooth as snow :-?

As I live in CT and dont get to down hill as often as I like, the C.C. skis come out quite often. Although this year has SUCKED so far. I live in eastern CT and have hundreds of acres around me all private with friendly owners. I can ski out the back door and in the front.I have friends who are reluctant to try C.C.butI look at it as a walk in the woods with moments of downhill and it dont cost any thing and no driveing

I have a studded tire/wheel for my mtn bike.

If there's too much snow for that, I build a kicker behind my house and attempt to break myself... but mostly I'm off alpining.

Season is just starting to rev-up

Say for example you have access to a lodge or weekend stay- place. One could ski alpine on a Saturday and then elect ot go X-Country skiing either as a apre-ski event or Sunday Morning.

One Christmas 4 yrs back I was doing some serious telemark turning at Old King Ridge in New London. Hiking up stepped in trails is a breeze.

It was so Thoreauvian as you had the entire terrain at your disposal. I did a lot of resurrecting of Old trails with other ski turners.

For those interested I highly recommend equipment sales at the end of the year. Nice sturdy boots, three-pin style and a light touring ski with metal edges. This ski should have some width to it. Why not go for the patented fish scale bottoms too. Get a telemark lesson and learn that classic stance.

I am no CCountry skater type. Thats almost like running track. THe skiis are real slippy and you need a perectly groomed skating area.

Miller (handing Otto a pine tree air freshener): You find one in every car. You'll see.

It's like NH cellars, each one has a pair of xc skis.

And there actually was one in every car. There was even one on the cop's motorcycle windscreen. 8)
