Crotched Mountain 1/18/09
Date(s) Skied: 1/18/09

Resort or Ski Area: Crotched Mountain

Conditions: Powder

Trip Report:

After a busy day, showed up for the last two hours, yay 19$ ticket. :-D Yesterday was one of those incredible days. I wish I hadn't been so busy during the day. It was like skiing on a featherbed. The piles where so light you could use them, or just plow right through them. Little kids where playing on Plutoes plunge, and laughing as they fell into the snow. Additionally, everything underneath was nicely packed powder, I didn't notice any scraping anyplace when you did go under the new snow.

The snow was so light, that even with weekend open NASTAR races on the lower half of meteor, no real ruts developed.

One nitpick however. If Crotched really wants people to have fun in their little glades, they REALLY need to pick up some of the portable guns and blow some piles into them. In places where there is limited paths, some areas would get cleared down thru the base. The top entry into final frontier was like that, and a fair amount of Solstice glade.

The *MINT* place to have fun was off trail behind the groomer garage below galaxy. They'd do well clearing the entry ways a bit more and open it up as a real area. But then again, I'm happy they haven't at the same time. :-D

Anyone hiking up to Turbo?

They gave names to the upper trails? But yes, actually, that's a good point. There was actually a LINE going up the the 'natural terrain' (aka, we cut it, intended to use it, but now cant manage to put a lift UP to it). :-D
