The midnight madness is a selling point for Crotched. Granted not many of us do it, but we all know about it and that Crotched has night skiing. So the advertising/promo is working.

And as said, it's a mainly a selling point for the younger crowd and the park crowd. I think it's a good thing. They only do the midnight madness what, once or twice a week at most for a few months a year? Is it that bad?

Crotched does midnight madness two days per week for two months per year. We are not talking about a lot of time.

I am one of the adults who shows up on a regular basis if I am at home for the weekend. I spend most weekend in North Conway, but this is a great alternative -- especially given that they are on my Wildcat / Attitash pass. You can go skiing after work on Friday and still get a full 8 hour day!

Crowds definitely drop off after midnight, but there are a respectable number of people. Lift lines are practically unheard of at Crotched. They don't even have enough of the corral gates to handle a line more than 10 people deep.

Their target market is clearly the Merrimack Valley. There are a lot of people who live about an hour away (Concord, Manchester, Nashua, Lowell, Lawrence).

Crotched has been granted a variance, but must put visors on the 38 new lights that were installed last year. Article
The mountain says that they will have to install more lights for safety concerns.

A nice comment from the Zoning Board chairman:

Midway through the meeting, Zoning Board Chair Silas Little caused a stir with remarks directed at skiers . “If you’re stupid enough to put a pair of boards on your feet and go down a slope, you can’t sue the mountain if you get hurt, not in New Hampshire,” Little said.

I don't think that we'll see any visors for a while, as the mountain will continue to say "it's too late for this year".
