I got to get me one of these DAMON SUCKS BABY BIBs. No I don't have any babies at home but I think it would make a cool baby shower gift. Yeah I know I know. I live in NY state and I am a Red Sox fan. Fortunatly I know a lot of Yankee fans that would like one of these bibs. :D

Really! I don't remember any NY fans marketing crap like this after 2004.

These fair weather fans make me laugh.

Amazingly I read more about this story today while searching for something else on an unrelated website...

Damon's agent Scott Boros contacted this woman and threatened her with massive legal action if she did not cease and desist. She countered by lamely stating that the bib could refer to anyone with the name "Damon"...weak and cowardly, but in a legal sense true.

So they reached an agreement that she could market these items as long as she left out any references to things like "Johnny", "Red Sox", "NY", "Yankees", or anything else that might pinpoint which "Damon" was being referred to.

Sorry, but all of these people involved in this stupidity need to get a life, especially Damon and his agent.

in 2014 providing Johnny doesn't have a plaque in Monument Park & has retired, he will be welcomed with mostly cheers & the rest of the 2004 champs.

That Said, I really like my "Looks Like Jesus, Talks Like Judas, Throws like Mary" T-shirt & "Curse My a$$" shirt

Anyone hear anything else about an alleged deal involving Mike Lowell? It's not my $9M but the guy has played great 3rd base & is hitting great too. To give up a good (great defensive) everyday 3rd Baseman, you'd have to get a great pitcher & with the Braves back in the hunt that old guy the Astro's just signed is about the best out there on a team not really contending & they just traded for Huff to play 3rd there. (Huff & Clemens for Lowell - well maybe that would be okay... providing Huff isn't leading the league in Errors for a 3rd baseman.... )

Sox would be nuts to trade Lowell, especially for Clemens.

Once Barry Bonds is indicted for steroid use and major leagers are forced off the juice, old men like Clemens will wind up playing like what they really are...old men.

Now if they could get Dontrell Willis...

Lowell's contract is the issue, he has been playing great, maybe even close to his contract level but if sox could get a decent bat & glove at either first or third for 2/3 of what Lowell makes to replace Lowell & pitcher to help this year, they might consider it. San Diego talk about Peavy is that he is young but all west coast teams are in the hunt in both leagues.

(2007 - Schilling final year, Wake, Lester, Becket & maybe Papalbon if Hanson looks good)

If they have already decided that Papalbon is the closer next year, then it makes sense to get a younger guy, like Willis (I wonder what Kazmir would cost?) since you only have Schilling, Wake & Lester assuming Clement is done in Boston

If they get to play-offs (read When) Schilling, Becket & Wells/Lester as the big three (history shows Wells can't come in for relief so he starts & keep Lester loose early just in case) with Wake for long relief & Clement for comic relief should be fine when you have more off days.

If Bronson was here that would be okay, he is still stuck on 9 wins after the fast start he had, Pena & Kapler should be able to spell Manny, Ortiz & Trot some so they stay fresh. Youk could use a day off too next time Baltimore, Tampa or KC are in town.

The title of this thread reminds me of John Valby's classic line:

"Disco freaks suck mirror balls."

Ok, I have nothing more to contribute.

Hey Marc, nice to see someone can appreciate the lighter side of this thread. There is just too much money in major league baseball now to take it seriously. They should go back to 1 year contracts. The players would have to play hard everyday just like Roberto Clemente did. Roberto was the real deal.

Valby a name from the past. I remember seeing John Valby when he was just starting out playing in this dirty filthy bar with about 20 customers called the Masthead on Grant Streat in Buffalo, NY.

everyone thought damon was the best thing since sliced bread when he was in boston and when he went to the yanks, everyone starts talking smack about how much the guy sucks. it is one thing to slack on him because he is a yank, but people changed their perceptions of his ability (i never thought he was a good player, i stopped watching the game around the time that he came to boston). same thing happened with bledsoe. people's perceptions change based on the present and folks start spouting off like the present is how it is based on current perception. same with nomar who many boston fans thought was an awesome SS before he got traded when in fact he had been terrible for a number of years prior to getting the heave ho, then btown finally realized he wasn't so hot. etc.

I find it hard to believe that there are people that would bid $151.00 for something that you can buy upstairs at the mall for $16.50 or have made on the lower level for $8.75.

People always knew that both Damon and Bledsoe had noodle arms - but they loved them for what else they brought to the table. It doesn't make someone a bandwagon fan for not liking them once they leave (and for the record, most don't hate Bledsoe - most don't care either way). Everyone loved Damon because he was on the Sox and they still love the Sox (hence there is really no jumping on the bandwagon there). If Damon was on any other team no one would care about him now, but he's a Yankee so we are obligated to hate him. Also, most people don't bash his ability as much as his personality.

FWIW, I don't think there is any way that the Sox would trade a part of the infield right now. They have proven to be the best infield in baseball defensively and they have all been hitting well this season.
In regards to Kazmir, there is no way the D-Backs would give him up. They have a good young team and in the coming years, they may actually be a contender in the AL East. To trade one of the backbones of their team would be a boneheaded mistake at best.

when someone is called a "bandwagon fan", it usually refers to following a team. This is the first time I've ever heard it used in reference to a specific player.

the only smack I ever recall hearing about Damon was about his arm, but he got bashed for that while he was here. Well, it was more of a "I hope the game isn't on the line with one out, a man on third and a fly ball hit to Damon". The guy is a great leadoff hitter. He made some statements about never going to the Yankees, then turns around and does just that. If people want to change their opinions at that point, I'm all for it.

The Bledsoe comment puzzles me a bit. I have season tickets to the Pats and the sentiments in the parking lots have been the same for years, including after he got traded - too slow, needs a great line to be successful and forces throws into double coverage way too much.

Nomar was a great SS right up until he hurt his wrist and tried to come back too soon. After that, there was a series of events, on and off the field, that just put him in a downward spiral. I don't think anyone was lumping him in the "great" category from about 2003 on.

But, you said yourself, you don't watch baseball, so you get a mulligan. I do watch baseball religiously, so I have way too much to say on the topic.

Especially since Kasmir plays for the Devil Rays...you got the league and division right though.
