Saturday we had just gotten on the Kanc. from the Rt. 16 side heading west, I looked up and saw this place. We stopped the car, grabbed our boards, and did some fun little runs through the powder. Up on top of the hill there was a wooden ramp at about a 45 degree angle. At the bottom of the ramp it flattened out lightly, then got really steep afterwards. We had a blast. There was a little shed near the bottom of the wooden ramp. The ramp looked exactly like part of those old time gigantic ski jumps.
It would be great to learn a what that place was, it was pretty cool and felt good to get some fresh tracks.

I first saw that place from the air 2 1/2 years ago. We were getting hauled up to Middle Sister by Helo to replace a solar powered radio repeater for the USDA Forrest service and flew right over it. I'll dig around aand see if I can find pix, but I think I might have deleted them.

if that is the area i am thinking of, it isn't "lost" perse, but just with those pics i can not be certain i am thinking of the right area. it is listed on nelsap as a still open area:
http://www.nelsap.org/nh/nh.html#sj

That's not it. It was on the east side of the Kancamangus, just a little bit after you turn off of 16, and before Bear Notch Rd. The trails were steeper and straighter than in the picture. I'll keep looking, but I am pretty sure it is not on the NELSAP site.

I think that is where Kennet High School ski jumping team practices but I am not sure.

That sounds like the most plausible explanation. There were lights on the trees, but it looked as though nothing had really been used up there for quite a while. There wasn't any jump built at the bottom of the ramp, but there were some snowtube tracks going down the hill.
