For any owners out there, don't forget the FAA now requires you to register your drone with then.

+ 1. Hate to say it, but only a matter of time before someone does something dumb with a drone that results in a massive crisis.

More like causing a crash of a commercial airliner.

I don't really see that as a threat unless it is a peraon trying to bring down the plane. The commercial jets spend so little time in airspace that a drone can reach.
No if it was a terrorist trying to bring the plane down, I doubt they will worry about following the rules.

You'd be surprised how much it is an issue...lots of idiots flying their drones too close to restricted airspace near JFK and other airports:

Some of these drones are fairly hefty. We all know what a bird strike can do to a jet engine, and I doubt that a large enough drone would be any kinder. On landing and/or departure there is precious little room for error.

I don't think that the overall risk is large (it would take a fool to fly that close to an airport), but it's certainly a risk that should not be ignored.
