More like causing a crash of a commercial airliner.
I don't really see that as a threat unless it is a peraon trying to bring down the plane. The commercial jets spend so little time in airspace that a drone can reach.
No if it was a terrorist trying to bring the plane down, I doubt they will worry about following the rules.

Some of these drones are fairly hefty. We all know what a bird strike can do to a jet engine, and I doubt that a large enough drone would be any kinder. On landing and/or departure there is precious little room for error.
I don't think that the overall risk is large (it would take a fool to fly that close to an airport), but it's certainly a risk that should not be ignored.
