Drought?

Here, in Wisconsin,we are having a drought. The farm crops are badly in need of water, crucial within the next 10 days. The news reports are telling you to not cut the grass, and don't water it. We had the 3rd driest spring on record; so far this summer we have had (officially) 10-90 degree days; last year we didn't have any! I was wondering what the weather has been like in New England??

off and on down pours in northern VT this afternoon. it was so humid you could have grabbed a glass of water by just bringing it outside for a few minutes  definitely no lack of precipitation up here. though it seems like it has been an above average temperature and above average humidity, don't have the stats off hand to back up my hunch though.

Dave, I'll send you all the rain you want. We had downpours last sunday morning and yesterday. A hefty thunderstorm passed over my work in Deer Park today.

I see what you mean about the east end being dry, the field for the strawberry festival was tinder dry.

My grass is growing like nuts :x

So far we have had 3 90F days this year. Our spring was normal except for May which was very cold.

We had about 200% of normal snowfall this winter, and anyone living near Boston probably had enough of snow to last for a while.

The local corn in Connecticut looked healthy and about 3 1/2 ' tall when I was up kayaking.

YUP, we have a drought here too. Only got 3" in less than hour today. It washed out a road construction site and there was water pouring across it into a store.

Well, about 25 mi east of teachski's location, we had 6 weeks of rain from mid-April to June 1, and since we've had 6 weeks of almost none. My lawn is all burned up now after looking like a golf course a month ago. Seems like all the thunderstorms west of us break up just when they get here and we get nothing. Yesterday we only got a sprinkle.

They called in a water truck to spray down the whole place before they set up and during the night. What would it have been like if they did not spray.

If you come west, you will see that Western Suffolk is lush and green, especially on the north shore. My grass has grown 6-8" since it was cut last friday

I guess it will be a good wine growing year, if it had been warm and dry, the grapes like that sort of climate.

Us too on the north end of the Quabbin. We got pounded two afternoons in a row with heavy downpours and T-storms. Probably 2" of precip over two days.

Been above average rainfall for the southern/midcoast areas of Maine. Been hot and humid the last few days.

Out of curiousity I checked the humidity here vs Warren, Vt and was surprised that while it was 90% here was only 57% up in Vt. Heading up to Vt to cool off on Friday.

The storm dumped an inch of rain in 20 minutes in St. Johnsbury alone, according to Mark Breen, meteorologist at the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium.
the front page of the cal rec today had a woman kayaking down the main street in either lincoln or littleton, i can't remember which.

Speaking of kayaking, I am looking for enough whitewater to paddle in on friday. I wanted to go to the Catskills, but the Esophus looks too low for paddling.

The current plan is to go back to the Farmington, maybe a bit further up by Ski Sundown.

You've had 6 weeks of almost no rain? Since June 17, there have been at least 10 nights we have had heavy rain and thunderstorms. I guess they just missed you.

We missed last weekends release on the Esophus, as we went to the Farmington instead. The AMC guide says the river can be run at the 5' level, and right now it is at 4.89'.

I am just not sure that it wil not continue to drop and not be worth the 3 hour drive :x

The next release is not until September.

Laurie - I have been hoping for some of those downpours, but for some reason they have been breaking up just west of us almost every time. We have gotten maybe 2-3 big downpours in the last month.
