e*thirteen components XC Triple Crank
With the merger of The Hive and e*thirteen, what we used to know as the Fifteen.G Triple Crankset is now rebadged as the e*thirteen XC Triple Crankset - 44/32/22t. The name is new, but the cranks haven't changed. After all, this XC Triple Crankset was already lightweight, possessed superior strength and durability, and weighed within 20 grams of a Shimano XTR crankset at half the cost. So why mess with success?
The e*thirteen triple crank starts life as a forging to produce an aligned grain structure within the 7050 aluminum alloy so that the arms will be stiff and super strong. They are then CNC machined to remove excess material and to add the characteristic styling. The two crankarms are separated by one of the most notable features, the green anodized 30mm aluminum spindle. Its torsional stiffness is 15% greater than a 24mm "standard" crank spindle. It's a permanent fixture on the drive side crankarm and is attached at the factory into the backside of the spider. The left side end of the spindle is terminated by a tapered polygonal interface -- it's very strong, the parts are all aluminum so there shouldn't be any strange galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals, and the 100% contact at the interface totally eliminates the chance of unwanted movement that could lead to worn fittings.
The e*thirteen triple cranks use a standard 64-104mm bolt circle so that if you find yourself with a broken or worn ring in a small town somewhere, chances are good that you could pick up an aftermarket replacement and get back on the trail. The rings are designed to work with Shimano chains, although we've used them with SRAM chains with great results. The 44/32/22 tooth chainset gives you a gear option for any trail. And for really rough terrain, the 6806 bearing, common in BB30 systems makes for a super tough system. The bearing is larger than a Shimano Hollowtech or Truvativ GXP bearing with a 9% larger ball diameter and a 16% greater radial load capacity, therefore increasing its durability.
The e*thirteen XC Triple Crankset 44/32/32t is Blackout black anodized and is available in three crankarm lengths -- 170, 175, and 180mm. It's made to fit both 68 and 73mm English threaded bottom bracket shells and has a 50mm chainline. It has laser etched torque specs at each threaded interface for easy installation and maintenance. It includes the necessary e*thirteen bottom bracket and installation tool.
