I am coming from the UK to visit the US in November. I would like to plan a skiing holiday for the second week in November. Does anyone know if any of the resorts are open that early and if skiing will be good then? I know it is a bit early.... I would love to go though.
Help... : )

Very likely the skiing will be bad everywhere but who cares, it will only be early November. Look for Mount Snow, Killington, and Okemo to be open by the second week of November for sure pending temps are low enough for snow making. These three will probably offer the most terrain. I wouldn't count out Stowe, Sugarbush, and perhaps Jay by the second weekend perhaps but with less terrain. So much depends upon temps.

There should be a good number of places open by then. Let us know where you end up!

If I was crossing over the Atlantic to ski in the US in November, Summit County Colorado is where I would go. Loveland, Arapahoe Basin and probably Breckenridge will each have more open terrain than all the Eastern US ski areas combined. Once in awhile Ullr smiles early and there will be decent snow in VT for early skiing.

Unless we get some serious help from mother nature very few resorts in NE are planning to be open that week. Those open will have very limited terrain. The Bush, for example, is planning to be open Nov 22.

some others
Killington, VT - November 15th
Sunday River, ME - November 8th
Okemo, VT - November 15th
Mt. Sunapee, NH - November 28th
Cranmore, NH - December 6th
Waterville Valley, NH - November 22nd
Loon Mountain, NH - November 22nd
Wildcat, NH - November 29th
Stowe, VT - November 22nd

All weather dependent....this time of year is hit or miss, and Vermont at that time is usually a tad bit early. That said, snow/slush is in the forecast for Tuesday/Wednesday according to Roger Hill, and I recall some awesome pre-season skiing at Jay Peak on November 9, 2002 and a week later at Mount Ellen. So anything is possible.

The skiing is "White ribbon of death" the second week of November. Expect one way down and very icy conditions. On weekends, expect to see crowds like you have never seen before. Snowmaking temperatures are unreliable in the first half of November so there might be no skiing at all.

Your best bets are probably Sunday River and Mount Snow. Sunday River has a very large snowmaking system, is fairly far north, and markets an early opening. Mount Snow invested heavily in fan-type snowmaking equipment and is interested in promoting their snowmaking system. They are somewhat too far south and too low elevation to be reliable in early November. Killington has targeted November 15th as their opening day but is saying they will open earlier if snowmaking conditions permit.

Damn. Nice round up SRO. No projected openings within the first two weeks of November, that has gotta be a first. And Wildcat barely by Thanksgiving (which is very late this year). Thanks for the correction on my clearly uneducated guesses based on the last few years.

Ya missed SR open on Nov 8th on the list. I got the list from SJ, think you have a post in that thread. I didn't round up, I copied and pasted. I think it was Jonni's roundup.

Oops again... was thinking of the VT areas specifically in regards to Nov 8th per the thread topic. But then I took things off topic myself with the Wildcat nod. Do I really have a post in an SJ thread with projected dates? Damned if I remember that thread but then again, clearly I am an dire mental straights at this point with the Jones setting in.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice, it's really helped. I am going to try to contact Sunday River and possibly go there for a few days. I will keep my fingers crossed on the snow! Otherwise, I will have to wait until February and go somewhere in Austria. Boo...
Cheers!

Clearly driving my crazy. And that ain't no joke either...she is a psycho puppy that never wants to stop playing and treats us like pack mates instead of superiors. In all honesty, it is a pretty bad situation right now to be quite frank and we are working with professionals on her behavior. Funny thing is... it is the exact opposite problem I would think most dog owners would have... our dog bites because she wants to play rather than out of aggression. No amount of exercise will satisfy. The only cure is puppy play time but there are no other pups in the area nor other owners that I know that want some play time.

That is a really bad synopsis of how things are going as it doesn't get into half of the issues and what we've been trying and going through. We are both at our wits end, that is for sho'.
