Excellent conditions today at Elk. Skied from 8:30 to 1, when it started to drizzle and my legs said enough(first day out this season). Carveable machine-groomed packed powder everywhere and bumps that are in pretty good shape on the ungroomed trails. They were 100% open today and I give them credit for opening Seneca with thin cover signs...some brown peeking through in spots, but mostly soft bumps there. Might not last the upcoming warm up, so glad I got to get it. More kudos for letting Tioga spur bump up, giving a lower angle mogul option. Only scratch was a the top of the Tunkhannock, and that was easily manageable and a fair trade for the nicely-developing field below. Sun never came out, so light was flat. Good crowd for a Wednesday, but never a wait for a lift. They could use a shot of natural, but it's in great shape nevertheless.

Thanks for the TR, I always thought the view from the top of Elk was pretty impressive...for PA. You can see for miles on a clear day. Could you see any fracking wells in the distance? I live 10 miles from them, they're upstream of my drinking water, YIKES! There's a moratorium on drilling in NY, but rivers know no borders. The Susquehanna flows from NY into PA, then back into NY, before returning to PA again. Binghamton's water source is the Susquehanna, scary.

couldn't see the wells, but there's a wind farm to the east

I'd much rather see windmills than gas wells, Wilkes-Barre, I believe. I remember first seeing them, pretty dramatic sight from town. Seeing them burn off the gas wells at night is quite a sight too. I thought there was a huge fire, the whole ski was orange.

I may end up at Elk too Scotty, if Greek goes down the tubes. I'll miss the trees if I do, what little Greek has. It ain't cheap to join, $750 for early buy. Better go at least twelve times.

Sorry about Greek, their pass is high at Elk, but I be saving on gas, closes 1000 vertical hill to me. And if I had a pass I would go some nights 2 days a week no matter the conditions. When I had my K pass I was there every weekend from T day to April, lots of time left Sunday at 1 pm but it was fun. Plus my goal next year is to be more fit, and have job closer to my home. Sorry for thread hijack. Elk is a real nice hill for anyone wondering definitely worth checking out.:)

if you buy an elk pass you need to get out at least 20 times to make it worthwhile

also, just looked today and upper seneca and lehigh (long green natural snow cruiser) are closed

Yes if I buy a season pass I plan on going more then 20 days in the winter, also I'm thinking of staying in the new hotel casino at their building now if price is reasonable.

Spring Mount where do you live? I'm about 5 miles south of Skippack on 73- Spring Mountain is only 20 minutes from my house, and I can see it from my window. My cousin is near harleysville only like 3 miles away.

gilbertsville now, but lived in spring for 7 years prior to that...walking distance to the hill...it was how i got back into skiing after a 10 year hiatus...was great fun on the few big snow days we had, to hike up the backside and lap plummet

I was there Wednesday also. Missed the drizzle as I had just stopped for lunch. Conditions were great when I went back out. Stayed till 2:30. I've only been to Elk a few times and it has always been midweek, So I have never seen a lift line. How bad does it get on weekends? My son would love the trails here, but with the slow lifts, the possibility of long lines have scared me off.

i go on sunday mornings fairly often and there's very rarely a wait of more than a couple minutes for a chair
