I just looked at the live camera from the clock tower and it only looks like a dusting remains halfway up killington to the summit, and very little if not nothing form the middle down. I don't think there advertised 6-8inches could've melted that quickly now could it? Maybe the camera isn't clear. Does someone have clarification.

Heavens! A ski area inflating their snow totals! Unheard of! Why, I never! I think I'll write my congressman!

(I'm 20 minutes south of Killington It's 60 degrees right now.)

Yes it can. It fell Sunday. Even without melting it would have compacted down to 2-4". Add in warm ground and way above freezing temps and you've got nearly no snow left in 2 days.

Look at their photos from Monday morning...looks like 6-8" without a doubt. Also add in all the trip reports from the public walking up the mountain saying 12" in spots (on this website I believe or at least Kzone).

This should be the season of good vibes, not pre-emptive complaining. When snow falls, it will always be deeper than 2 days later, let alone 2 warm days when the ground is warm.

Actually it's an honest mistake on the part of ski resorts. I drew a pic to try and illustrate this. As you can see in the pic, there is 5" of snow on the ground. But since the resorts try to measure the snow on the slopes (they want to give you a true indication on what you will be skiing on) they have difficulty putting the measuring stick exactly perpendicular to the ground. So as seen in this instance, they come up with 8" :) I've kind of tried the same thing with women, and results have been mixed. :)

Trust me...I live here. We got that much snow up on the hill. I had 4" at my house which is at the elevation of Snowshed. There had to be more higher up because it would've changed over earlier.

i saw a kmart report that definitely had the goods. snow melts quick when it falls on unfrozen ground which demonstrates a major difference between the northern greens right now and kmart which doesn't seem to have a frozen ground for the snow to fall on yet. last year three feet of snow melted in one week, just the way it goes early season.

For some reason I lost track of time and thought today was Monday. That being said I thought it all melted over night. Honest mistake.

Andyzee - If we have another season like we had last year can I use your diagram for measuring new snow - or lack thereof?
Just kidding - I found that very entertaining!
Just to be honest, it was much deeper than 8 inches in spots up there on Monday!

Killington doesn't have any terrain that is steep enough for that to kick in. If you do your measurement on a 20 degree slope, the correction is insignificant.

In my experience, Killington is fairly accurate with their snowfall reports. There is a big perception issue since the place gets so much skier traffic that a 12" dump on Wednesday is skied into bullet-proof by the weekend. Snow also settles so if you measure it a day later, that foot will measure out to 8".
