I think last year they were open till May 1st or 2nd, but I'm not sure of Killington's history, or dedication to April ski conditions.

Is it silly for me to book a trip for April 10th-11th at this point in time? Is only part of the mountain open at this time? When do we usually know how late Killington will stay open till?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

I can't speak for Kmart specifically, but in New England in general, I wouldn't think that you need to book anything that late in the season. Wouldn't it be better to leave your options open? Seems to me I just show up and there are always rooms to be had and spring rates to pay. Unless of course you are getting zee zuper deal.

no doubt they'll be open. Bear and Skyeship down to rt 4 and possibly even the needles area may not be open but there should be plenty to ski even if they only run superstar, k1 and a snowden lift.

there are many posters far more knowledgeable about this subject then me but that's my input.

I would follow Billski's lead. Unless you have a super deal then I would hold off and wait, generally in April the crowds begin to thin out a bit, even as it is often he snowiest months. So hotel rooms should be aplenty. I think the whole "no snow in my backyard" thing starts taking a hold on people. Also is Killington your one and only place you would visit? If not then I would hold off as conditions can very greatly from resort to resort, although conditions usually are not the issue at Killington during the last few years, but rather economics of keeping a place open later and later. That's my two cents, and I would not consider myself and expert on the Killington experience, only been a pass memeber for 4 years.

Thanks so far for all the great advice. I'm just trying to organzie a ski/snowboard trip for about 8 guys, and as we are all from CT, I felt it easier to organize a 3 hour drive, that's why I'm leaning Killington. But if you guys think I don't have to book ahead of time, I guess I'll wait.

i do the same every spring...we usually decide where we are going on 90 somewhere around hartford...drive right to the bar at decided mountain..drink till closing...find a place to sleep...get to mtn around 10 once the snow starts to soften...skiing at 8am is brutal scratch as the wet snow refroze overngiht...

If you are going to Killington, it's not a one-hotel town. There must be dozens, if not hundreds of options. There will be lots of competition for your plastic/cash. You may also find yourself with a better rate, by calling around late. More money for tickets and beer ;)

Now, if you're not comfortable without the warm and fuzzy of a reservation, that's a different issue and it's your call.

Remember, by the time you want to go, everyone is out playing soccer and has totally forgotten about east coast skiing, save for about 2000 people, spread across 80 resorts. Do the math....

p.s., the small places sometimes close up completely and take their own vacations then, so be forewarned.
