Trails(s) Hiked:
Falling Waters
Total Distance:
Approx. 4 Miles
Difficulty:
Not too difficult due to the slow pace(I was hiking with a new hiker)
Conditions:
Despite the beautiful weather report, the rain and ice prevailed. VERY VERY cold above treeline
Special Required Equipment:
None
Trip Report:
I had planned this trip about 2 weeks before, to take a friend who doesn't hike much. She thought it'd be fun so I took her expecting her to be in good cardiovascular condition. I was very wrong, and the same goes for anytime i've taken a girl hiking, so i see the end of that coming very soon. We parked at the trailhead, which wasn't crowded at all and it was drizzling a little bit. The rain was on and off all the way up. The waterfalls on this trail were very nice, but i think i could have appreciated them more on a nice day. I took a few good pictures. I have heard that this trail was very steep but after hiking it, I think it is made out to be worse than it really is. The plan was to hike up to the ridge, peak lincon, lafayette, and then visit the hut, and go down Bridal Path. As we were approaching tree line, i started to notice ice sprinkled on the ground. I wa quite excited, but the consequences really didnt hit me until a little later. As soon as we broke tree line, the wind chill was unbearable and almost everything was coated in ice. We were forced to turn around in disappointment. We definitly weren't prepared for what we encountered. Lesson Learned.
