yeah that sucks...
I met a bunch of really cool Iranians on my world travels.. Really nice people told me about the skiing..
Someday maybe I can go... I'd love to see Iran. It's supposedly really cool...

oh well... Hey 20 years ago - who thought Americans would go to Lebanon to ski!

I once went skiing with a Lebanese student. Took him to Sunday River and it was snowing pretty well. Powder day. He kept complaining about the soft snow and said that, in Lebanon, they would groom this stuff out before they would allow people to ski it. Why would such and expensive resort allow people to ski this stuff, he wondered. I had a good laugh and just let him be. Perhaps this resort was what he was talking about.

It's probably like Japan where 99% of the people ski on trails... and all the North Americans and Kiwi's ski off piste... :)

No doubt. I think we will get the chance at some point. The Iranian people differ greatly from their government.

I was chatting with an older Iranian guy at a hotel bar in Korea... He drank tea because he's a devout Muslim. We had a great chat.. Basically said the same thing... Said he looks forward to seeing America - we traded email addresses so i can show him NYC someday..

I told him "funny... You don't look evil" - he laughed...

I have heard in the past that the religious police do not monitor the ski resort in Iran asclosely as other places and so it is a place where people have more freedom in dress and behavior. Not sure if that is still the case now.

It's the "too much snow" syndrome!

In this case, it's probably cultural. I read somewhere (Skiing perhaps) that the Japanese consider the forests sacred and did not ski there until recently.

I've heard the same thing...

IIRC there was an article about skiing in Iran last year in either Ski or Skiing magazine. It was pretty interesting. I also had an Iranian co-pilot who skied in Iran when he lived there and he said the skiing was good over there.

I didn't know that Mountain Creek was in Lebanon.
