Yesterday I got a call at work from a friend that lives near Pittsburgh giving me the news that Laurel Mt. PA will reopen this year. This was the best news I've heard in a long time. 7Springs is going to run it this year renaming it the Springs at Laurel Mt. The place isn't much compared to the NE resorts but it will give us flatlanders an uncrowded alternative to 7Springs. It has a 900 ft. vertical and 18 trails, with the 18 being a stretch. We found it 2 years ago and fell in love with it. One of those down home friendly places. Then last year it didn't open due to financial problems. Its nice to see a place come back from the dead. In this day and age that doesn't happen too often! YEEHA!! :D

That's GREAT news!

It happened twice in NH last year...Onset/Bobcat/Crotched West(closed a little better than 10 years) reopened as Crotched and Pinnacle in Roxbury, NH (closed in 1977) reopened as Granite Gorge. It also happened in MA last year. Pine Ridge Ski Area (closed from 1984 to 1991 and in 2002) reopened as Pine Ridge Snow Park.

I think it's so great when a "lost" area can reopen and I wish them all great success!
