Each Thursday Night I chaperone the ski club from the school I teach at on their weekly outing to Wachusett Mountain. It is about an hour from the school to the mountain by bus. I generally take my car as we have plenty of other chaperones, but last night I had to ride the bus.
On the way back from the mountain, the fog was so thick that it was close to impossible to find the road. I was in the front of the bus. My job was to watch the right side of the bus and the road. The lines on the road were not visible, they either didn't exist or were covered with sand. This made it even harder, at times, to locate the road. It took well over an hour to travel from Wachusett to Barre, a trip that usually takes the bus 25 -30 minutes. From there the fog was less, but still quite heavy.
As we got closer to the school the fog disipated and we were able to pick up some speed, but it still took 50+ minutes to get to Ware from Barre. This is a route I travel daily. It rarely takes me more than 30 minutes, even in snow. we should have been back to the school at about 8:30, it was close to 9:45 when we got there.
I had to backtrack to get home. It seemed as though the fog thickened. It was a miserable ride.
When I got home there was still a good 4-5" of snow in my yard. My driveway had about an inch of slush on it (the plow can not plow real close because of uneven pavement.) This morning the driveway was clear and the lawn too.
This is BAD! I hope we get some more snow soon and the temps stay down!
