LUDLOW, Vt. - Forbes.com listed their top picks in an article and slide show titled "10 Best Ski Resorts for Families." Okemo Mountain Resort claimed the fifth position in the top-ten list and Okemo was the first eastern resort named.
Keeping families connected isn't easy with busy work schedules, school sports and a variety of recreational interests. Okemo owes its understanding of family needs to resort operators Tim and Diane Mueller, who raised their children on snow. Their reputation for creating excellence in family experiences sets Okemo apart from other resorts. The couple's personal touch is everywhere and is one of the reasons why the resort is a family favorite.
The Forbes article lists criteria for what makes a ski resort family friendly. Author Larry Olmstead lists excellent ski instruction, good deals on tickets and rental equipment, activities for non-skiing members of the family, plus off-slope family entertainment and activities, family-friendly dining and accommodations.
Okemo offers miles of playful terrain to suit any ability level with gentle beginner slopes, long intermediate cruisers, bumps, steeps, glades and plenty of freestyle action with one of the largest superpipes in the East and six terrain parks. Okemo's Ski + Ride School offers group and private lesson options for first-time skiers, seasoned experts, and everyone in between. A number of programs and special offers make skiing at Okemo affordable for families, and the resort offers one of the largest inventories of mountainside lodging options anywhere in the East.
There's lots for non-skiers at Okemo too. Wintertime fun includes ice skating, snow tubing, snowshoeing and the new Timber Ripper Mountain Coaster. There are indoor and outdoor swimming pools, spa services, indoor golf, events and activities. Okemo Valley offers plenty of family-friendly dining and great shopping. In addition, Vermont's unique countryside is waiting to be explored any time of year.
