The Flux helmet is cut low in the back for added protection. This is extremely important for all-mountain riders, who generally ride more technical terrain than XC riders. the Flux offers about as much protection as you can get, short of buying a full-face helmet, and those tend to be pretty hot during the climb.
The Flux is a single-impact helmet, which means it does a better job of protecting your skull during a crash than a multiple impact helmet, but needs to be replaced after that first big impact because the EPS foam becomes deformed. The visor helps keep the sun and branches out of your eyes. It can also be removed. Fox's Detox retention system allows you to dial in the fit, so you can wear it however you find to be most comfortable.
Fox punches 20 large vent holes in the shell, so you'll get plenty of airflow on hot days. The vents are designed to force air into the helmet so it flows around and cools your head. An adjustable chin strap keeps everything snug while you ride.
