It's all about the terrain and if there's enough snow to make it interesting...
It may not get as much snow as other places but it's got awesome terrain..
It's a classic ridge>bowl>Ridge>bowl>ridge>bowl setup.. All the ridges have awesome steep chutes that get wind loaded every night...
The access to these chutes are really nice.. Not too much work for the goods..

Great "slack country" hikes too... In fact - you step outside the KH boundry and your sharing the bowls and chutes with Heli tours... And MAN do they get pissed when they see you...

It's just my opinion obviosuly... But no place in the word has got me stoked like KH and I've been all over out west, south america and europe...

Been to Sunshine - there's one spot that they will only let you go with transceiver/shovel/probe... Think it was called the Delirium Dive or something... Pretty cool and there's some other good terrain ariund there too - but the rest was pretty tame..

Hit KH first - that way if you like it you won't be kicking yourself for losing days...

Just remember that I go out west to scare myself on every run... So I tend to push my East Coast limits...

It may just be due to it's exposure and it's propensity to windload.... Not sure..

I carry a tranceiver/probe/shovel whenever I go out west now anyways... So it's not a big deal..
Look what happened at ABasin last month! Slide inbounds...

Two other place I've been to that have rules like that are Big Sky and Bridger Bowl..

I'd opt for that mountain on Hawai'i. Ski during the day, SCUBA at twilight, drink under the stars and tiki torches all night.

Sahweeet!

That does sound nice - except I hear skiing the big mountain kinda blows...
I'd do it if I ever went though...

I like the Southern Cali thing... Ski Bear during the day and surf in the evening...

Have you heard about the new place that supposed to built in BC, it was in ski mag... 5500 ft vertical few glaciers, tons of snow.... if it goes as planned it will blow whistler away in size... have to say i dont believe it until i see it though

just found this... looks pretty serious

its near panarama, they should just throw in the towel right now
2,300 vertical ft of summer skiing

Yeah I remember reading about that place in ski magazine too, pretty amazing. I wonder what the market is for summer skiing? Do you think there would be enough demand that it would justify the summer operations?

I think kicking horse is own by a small company looking to get big.. Thought I read where the KH people were trying to buy something else...

Panorama - is not a bad mountain.. When I was there the chair setup blew.. Had to take a couple chairs and pomas to get to the real good stuff.. Round trip from the top of the bowl - down and back up was about 40 minutes or so... Which I hated..
I'm not knocking the terrain.. But Intrawest has created a crappy village with crappy resturants and crappy bars... We went to the Heli place(RK?) for dinner a couple times... Drank beers with some guides who told us not to waste our $$ doing the Heli thing cause of wierd snow... We would've been on really low angle stuff...

We skied Panorama 2 days and discoverd KH.. Blew off our 5 day ticket at Panorama and drove to KH every day...
Amazing time...
