Any really good freestyle ski/snowboard events go on in New England? I want to bring the kids someplace where they can actually get a chance to see some real pros going at it, wasn't sure who has what where as far as that's concerned. They've been having a blast watching the Snowboard Show and the such, wanted to give them a chance to actually see some of these large competition events.

That actually looks great, but.. Umm..

I was hoping for something in a little less then the 5 hour drive range. :-D

2 kids * 5 hour drive = 10x road rage. :spin:

Isn't the US Snowboarding Open held at stratton every year? Five hrs from where? As for freestyle skiing I think the Lake Placid region has to be the Mecca for all the east coast? I think all the bigger resorts have some kinda comp. at some time of year

Southern NH. I live about 15 minutes south of Crotched.

As far as Stratton, that sounds like EXACTLY what I'd be looking for. :)

ALWAYS awesome to get responses direct from the industry, and welcome to AlpineZone! :)

Of those events, which ones actually attract big air pros as opposed to local talent?

I found an ad in the latest Skiing mag with the TV schedules of a bunch of events. Here are the events in the northeast:

Skiing:
Nature Valley U.S. Alpine Championships: 3/29/08, Sugarloaf, ME
Nature Valley Freestyle Cup World Cup: 1/27/08, Lake Placid, NY
Snowboard:
Chevrolet U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix: 3/23/08, Killington, VT
Paul Mitchell Progression Session: 3/6/08 Lake Placid and 3/23/08 Killington
Visa U.S. Snowboarding Cup: 3/8/08: Lake Placid

These dates and times are the TV showings and some are shown multiple times but I picked the earliest date, so they may not all be live. I would check the dates and times of the actual event before you go.

The Anti-Gravity Grail will attract some of your bigger East Coast Pro talent where the Mount Snow Freeski Open, which is apart of the Opens Freeski tour that also hits Breckenridge, CO and Big Bear, CA should attract some national talent.

The Mega Mother Hucker event on Saturday of the AGG is not to be missed. Athletes hit a 40-60' booter and jump over a live rock band with a fireworks show to follow.

I've been visiting alpinezone for nearly two years but you are correct as this is my first post and thank you for the warm welcome.

Happy Holidays.

While it's not 'pro' skiers, the Outer Limits Mogul Challenge is always a blast to attend and there is usually near pro level bumpers competing.
