This started over on snowjournal. Basically, the site is built with the goal of mapping open ski areas in Google Earth and providing KMZ files for download. We also hope to build some software which will generate statistics for the areas based upon the information in the KMZ files. We're looking for any members who are willing to join and help map. the url is www.geosap.org and there's a link to join the site on the sidebar and on the front page. We have quite a task ahead of us and are looking for any help, including programmers to help with the programming.

Thanks,
dh14

There are at least a couple of KMZ files out there already that have all the ski areas in the country mapped. I also have one somewhere that I did years back that has most of the areas in the East on it, that's where we got most of the coordinates for our ski area locater map came from. Seems like you guys are trying to re-invent the wheel.

we're mapping each trail with a centerline and a trail boundary, and each lift with it's own line. this project is aiming to be much more than just a map.

Sounds ambitious. I guess I should have checked out your page before chiming in. Good luck with the project!

That sounds cool. I'll see what I can dig-up. I have almost every area in NE marked on a kmz. Also, there is a Ski conditions appelet for Google Maps. Its called SkiBonk. It has every area in the country, and Canada. I know there's a way to exchange info to/from Google Maps and GE. Not sure EXACTLY how, but....
