Glade Vs. Tree Skiing Definition Poll

Glades are marked...

Trees are just... well.... trees...

Trees: the EC mountain in its natural state. You get what you get- logs, rocks, boulders, frozen waterfalls, flowing water, whatever. Proceed with caution. Not marked on the map.

Glades: areas where the above-mentioned items have been cleared so that they can be skied with less snow cover and less caution. Usually marked on the map.

Exception: some "tree skiing" will appear similar to glades due to natural conditions & lay of the land, i.e. Mother Nature did the clearing. Very rare. I'd classify this as glade though it isn't marked on the map.

(Notice in the Belleayre TR I posted earlier today, I labeled some pics as trees & others as glades. E.g., the "Belleayre Glades above mid" aren't on the map- it's a natural clearing. The official glades start at mid.)

Hmm.....so how about when someone wants to go ski "the woods"? Is it a glade, trees or something completely different? Do I need different skis when skiing one or the other? Is it okay to wear a backpack if I'm in the woods but not when in the trees or the glades?

Glades = thin spacing, typically lower/medium angle, typically been on the map for a long time

Trees = medium spacing, probably on the map, could be steep or not, probably multiple good lines to choose from at any given point, more natural obstacles and features than most "glades"

Wo0ds = basically straight up woods, good luck in there!

Woods are what's in your back yard. Nobody skis there.
Skis are your choice.
Anyone other than ski patrol skiing the frontside with a back pack is probably hiding baby diapers and bottles. Or they're just pretentious.

We didn't have underbrush like out here. This undergrowth shit blows my mind.

It's buried out west. In our eastern trees the base often goes to less than 1" regardless of what the resorts claim it is.
