Northstar on a pwder day the frontside is f l a t........backside is OK....

The newly expanded Lookout/Martis area is quite nice at Northstar. Pretty empty compared to the rest of the place. It's a bit of a pain to get to, so that keeps the crowds away. Was still getting plenty untouched stuff after 3PM.

Snowbomb card is indeed a great deal. Don't forget to get your free tune-up.

Keep an eye on Dell Perks/Recreation Connection for 1/2 price Squaw and Alpine Meadows tickets. They go VERY quick though, so if you see them buy them immediatly. Got 10 Squaw tickets from them last year, great deal!!!

Thanks for all the help so far. Where should I be looking for these dell tickets?

First sign up here...

https://perks.dell.com/

You don't actually need to own a Dell.

Then do a search for "ski" and choose "Ski Tickets". Pick any ski area and click "shop now". That will redirect you to the "Recreation Connection" website. When purchasing the tickets from them be sure to put in you're a "Dell Perks" member in the "Company Name" area. Also, when looking for tickets always go all the way into a specific ski area page. If they have the 1/2 price ones, the discount won't be shown in the list with all the other ski areas. You'll just see the "regular" discount, like $19. Enjoy!!!

Yeah, not too many are available yet. The others should be showing up soon. Make sure you get all the way into the "recreation connection" site. That's where the tickets will show up before they make it to the actual Dell Perks website. And just remember last year the Squaw and Alpine 1/2 price ones would come and go. So most of the time you'll only see lesser discounts. Hopefully the 1/2 price ones will show up again sometime. If you want to be really ambitious about it make the Squaw page you home page. Would be hard to miss if it does show up.

Alpine Meadows was on Liftopia last year. I got a lift ticket for like 34 bucks.

Squaw was not. In fact, we bought two discount ticks at a local sporting goods chain (name escapes me now) for Squaw, and when we tried to use them two days later Squaw said they weren't taking them anymore. Definitely felt screwed and dropped $150-ish for 2 regular lift tickets but it was our last day in Tahoe. I wasn't walking away from Squaw and I didn't have time to take it up with the store but I had such a good day/week I didn't have any energy to be mad.

I spent most of last winter in South Lake Tahoe.

Believe me you are going to want a car out there and a car with 4WD. They don't mess around out there when it is snowing. Not like North East where they let idiots drive Mustangs in the snow up to the mountains. You don't have the right car there they won't let you through. Think about it if they get a 4 foot dump of snow (and yes when it snows in Tahoe you can measure it in feet) do you really want to not be able to make it to the mountain because you didn't spend an extra $100?

Also where you will be in North Lake it's not that easy to get around without a car. If you where going to South Lake and staying in the Stateline Casinos I would say no car needed. But in a Kings Beach condo you are going to want a good car. It's hard to get around up there and there almost no North Lake to South Lake shuttles so you limit where you can go. Also things are really spread out in North Lake so you really need to drive.

My advice is to CALL some of the car rental offices in Tahoe. You will get a much better rate if you talk to someone there on the phone. If you rent at the airport there is an added tax. In the past I did one way rentals (or took the bus) from the airport and then rented a 4WD car for a week at a local office in Tahoe. It was way cheaper doing it that way.

As for where to ski all I can say is go to Squaw as much as possible. The place is sick.

For an off or half day you might want to check out Diamond Peak. They usually have really cheap tickets and crazy special deal. Last year I skied there for $20 with a season pass to any other resort.

If you like tree skiing you will like Heavenly. I did close to 40 days there last season. It's a fun mountain if you stay off the trails. Heavenly has a whole bunch secret areas. My advice is talk to someone who knows the place & follow them! Heavenly's got crazy good stuff if you know how to find it.

Sugar Bowl is also worth a trip. Northstar is not as bad as everyone says. Just stick to the backside.

For eats if you go to Homewood take a detour towards South Lake Tahoe and check out the Burger Lounge! Best onion rings I ever had!

And yes definately get the Tahoe Bomb card!

Also the Casinos in Crystal Bay sell discounted lift tikets. You can save a few bucks by buying them there.

Hey Ed,

Thanks for using Liftopia.com last year, we are pumped about some more resorts this year, and Alpine is just about to load some rates for the season.

Thanks for your patience while we get more deals loaded (a bunch more out east coming soon as well!).
