I'm sitting on the fence on this one...they're coming to Lebanon, just across the river, but I've only heard mediocre at best reviews. :-? Last season's left something to be desired and I thought it was kind of lame in many aspects including the product placement. NO EASTERN skiing at all. :(

But the one good side is that they are giving away free tix to K-mart, Attitash, and Ascutney with this season's film.

So undecided...

What are you going to do?

too bad the lift ticket deals aren't as good as last year. mid-week only, total crap. well, the ascutney is not restricted so that could be worth showing up, buying a ticket, then walking out the door :D counting gas, that would be about a 50% off pre-paid ticket.

The Ascutney Pass I believe is only good on certain designated days. Dec 24th, Jan 8th, Mar 5th, etc.

Never have...doubt I ever will. I get a kick out of the older WM films I've seen. Only saw them because I was on a ski bus trip...a mood setter I guess?

Haven't seen any newer ones.

I might consider going if they played closer to me. But last I checked, the closest was almost an hour drive. Just not that interested in "seeing" the sport vs "doing" the sport.

Here's a better question...who's going to the Ski Expo when it comes to town (Boston or wherever)? I have a pal who puts time in at a booth. Wanted to go see him last year...but the weekend plans got jammed with Honey-do stuff.

Maybe this year. Will there be an AZ Booth? Inquiring minds.

I'll be working the Warren Miller movie premiere for Sunday River this year. I'll get you the dates for when I'm working, maybe I can hook some of the AZ faithful up with some goodies.

Doesn't everybody fall asleep to Warren talking while somebody is pulling off a sick trick? I have only seen his older movies (Storm, another I can't remember) on Starz and thought his talking over the riding\skiing segments was a shot to the people that rode the lines.

Warren Miller started the genre but his stuff is a snore fest compared to what's out there now. TGR, Matchsticks - much better. I've got WM suff in the DVD library at home but only because people gave it to me as a gift. No WAY I pay to see one of his flix on the big screen. And the free schwag isn't nearly enough to change my mind. I think Warren's time has come. I respect him though.

I'll be going to the showing here in Albany. It's has sold out so many times here that they are having two showings this year.
I think you can be a WM fan and a Meathead fan.
In theory this could be the last one Warren narrates. There was a thread here not to long ago that posted an artical that stated that WMs contract with Time Warner (or whoever owns the company now) was up this January, and that he was not happy about the direction the films have been going since he sold the company to his son. Who I believe sold it to Time Warner.

rider and freeheelwilly echo my sentiments on WM. that voice... oh... the voice. takes me days to get that voice out of my head. and the jokes, they're pitiful.

that said although the music and WM "commentary" pretty much ruin the experience for me, i have to admit the video footage has improved a lot. in fact in Cold Fusion had a sequence (with I think Jeremy Jones) which I is prob the finest big mtn snowboarding footage i've ever seen on video. twas nothing nutty like fakie take-off 9's, landing switch, nonsense (like TGR's Soul Purpose) but just a steep ass line (in AK I think) and the smoothest form I've ever seen on film. Its scenes like that that send me into the basement to wax my board! I should have ripped that scene onto my computer for repeated viewing pleasure. 8)

his time came a few years ago when he sold the company, he just narrates, the movies really have nothing to do with him at all any more. i hope WM gets a contract break soon and goes on to narrate for another company that puts out some great movies. WM has a great voice and excellent commentary. and those best parts about WME movies were severly removed from some recent releases. without WM, WME movies have nothing.

The way the poll options were contrived, it feels to me that there's no middle ground for a sentiment like, "No, I probably won't see this year's Warren Miller film although I'm not opposed to his films."

If you read the poll, you'd see that "undecided or other" is listed.  That's the neutral ground.

I did read the poll options and felt that the general tone was if someone wasn't planning to see it, they must have total disdain for Miller's films. That's my opinion.

You're right in saying that you read too much into the question.

However, I can't prevent people from inserting their own views into things that I write.

Your POV was not what was being expressed in the poll and is pretty extreme actually when considering that my opening post expresses the same sentiment that you voiced originally--undecided on going this year, no problem with WM.

Now to get back to the topic at hand, Warren Miller...what is your favorite film he has made so far? For me, "Black Diamond Rush." :D Love the Sugarbush footage.

I'm in...

As you might guess by the sig. Eventhough, I have to admit the Warren shows are much the same every year, but I haven't missed one in 20 years. It's official start to the start of the ski season around here.

Was lucky enough to hit the Matchstick premier Hit List a few weeks back in Whistler. GREAT show! Some "sick" skiing, and very entertaining, but can't say I've seen it for 20 years in a row. I'm pretty sure MSP throws a much better after party, although i've never partied with Warren so can't say for sure. :)

I think even the Matchstick crowd would agree Warren started the whole thing so it's good to support him.

Cheers,
- Paul.

i agree warren was one of the originals and did some phenomenal things for ski movie production. but to support a corporation in the present because it's founder (who no longer owns, runs, or operates the company btw) made significant contributions to the industries beginnings does not add up to me. i stop supporting things when they cease to interest, entertain, or satisfy me. WME refuses to show the east coast and only goes places that can pony up some money for them. definitely not the warren used to do things back when the whole thing started. i will financially support those production outfits that listen to their fan base and make a superior product, i will not support a company just because it's founder was an innovator.
