My uncle decided to come up from NJ this weekend, I knew conditions Sunday would not be so stellar, so I took advantage of my winning ticket from the Gore Trivia Challenge.

Conditions were...sunny, cold and wind blown, but some soft stuff to be had. About 18 degrees, windchill definitely close to 0.

First ride up we took the ADK Express, by the end of the wind tunnel my uncle was developing minor frostbite, I couldn't feel my toes and my little brother couldn't feel his fingers. So we skied back down to the base lodge and loaded up on throat protectors, warmer gloves and toe warmers. Side note to this: I cannot believe how cheap the in-lodge ski shop is. $9 throat warmer, nice Scott gloves for $25, and toe warmers for $2 (first time ever using these). I could imagine these items being way marked up at bigger more commercialized mountains.

After we had warmed up we headed straight for the High Peaks chair, notorious for being the least windy chair on the hill. Trails like Hulabaloo, Open Pit and Cloud were in great shape considering. We went to the Straightbrook Quad (which I have been incorrectly calling the Top Ride quad, some regular I am), again, not too bad as far as wind. Absolutely no lines on either of these chairs. We lapped Chatiemac, Hawkeye and Lies a few times, all of which had tremendous snow for how windy it was. We then took the Top Ridge chair to get to the gondola and go down to the bottom. BIG MISTAKE. I know this to be the windiest chair on the hill, but they were making snow on Uncas which blew into the lift line. Couldn't see the chair in front you. We made it down and grabbed an early lunch and warmed up a bit. This was around 11:00am and already there was a steady stream of people leaving. We got back out and lapped the High Peaks and Straightbrook areas until about 2:30 and called it a day. Last run going down under the gondola was blue ice. Hockey skates would have been better,

All in all: Not bad, they need more snow to get the glades up to par.
