Trip Report: Finally got some spring skiing in!

I was going to go to the White Mountains for a white water run on Saturday so I made plan for skiing at Wildcat on Sunday. Then on Friday, the white water run was cancelled due to the heavy rain and anticipated melting of the big snowpack flooding the river, too dangerous.

So I decided on Friday to change plam and go to Gore instead. It's a lot closer to home and they still have a lot of trails open. And the reduced lift ticket price of $34 doesn't hurt. A friend decided to join me which made it even nicer.

Spend the night at Warrensburg. When I woke up the next morning, it was 30 degrees! Blurrrr... rolled over and closed my eyes again. ;-)

Finally got to the mountain around 10:30. It felt warmer than what the thermometer said. The sun high in the sky made a big difference! Took a couple runs in the lower mountain for a little while, then it stared to get slushy so we moved to the upper mountain. The snow condition was changing fast. One run was firm, next was nice, then the following one would be slushy!

Although there were a lot of bare spots, most of the trails still had enough coverage to ski all the way. The bare spots actually made it more interesting! My friend and I stayed on some of the bump runs: Rumor, Lies etc. The bumps were soft to slushy for most part of the day. Until near closing time when they re-frosen again. Just about the right time to quit!

All in all, a great day to be skiing.

The only thing that made the ending less than nice was the terrible smell of the pool of dirt they use to fill the area in front of the main lodge. The melting snow made a pool of dirty water around the base lodge and the gondola. And the dirt smells strongly of pig shit! YUK!!! They were serving burger and beer on the deck but the smell took my aptitide away so we didn't stay for the beer. Also, having to walk through that pool of filthy water and putting the boot in the car was just too disgusting! So I washed it in the sink in the bathroom. Hope they don't mind. ;-)
