Got an email from Gore yesterday ... they are done for the season. Not a big surprise.

Currently with ORDA/NY State potential budget issues, next season looks to be a bit up in the air at Gore. I'm pretty confident that things will work out ok. From a poll posted on SkiAdk, it looks like some may be considering pass options in VT. I looked at Kmart to try to start some discussion on the topic.

We've gotten some interesting responses so far and I'd like to open it up to people from AZ. This is not intended to be a straight up comparison of the two hills. I'm curious to know what people driving up from the south consider to be the pros and cons of driving farther and spending more to ski in central VT?

Gotta assume you're talking the pros of VT. No question 100+ extra inches of natural and even more manmade are (to me) the huge advantages. Personally I could care less about the nightlife, amenities, etc. Clearly you're not in the minority either.

Mark ... where do you ski?

Yes, its all about the snow to me. I live near NYC....I mean you can't find food or nightlife that will compare to what I have near my home anywhere in the world. So, when I go skiing....its all about the snow and terrain.

For years, I was a southern Vt. skier....had a place at Mt. Snow first with my buddies and then with the wife for over 10 years....Now with my girls being young...we have passes at Catamount. Probably will be there for another couple of years before we head back to southern vt. I live near the Tappan Zee...so if Gore got the goods....(100" difference is huge esp considering Gore's 150" seasonal avg.) I'd love to be able to ski right off the Thruway.

marcski ... I'm not familiar with Catamount, or it's annual snowfall but I think it's in NY or Mass. So driving distance is also a factor? Seems like it has to be something of a factor for most people. If I didn't have a family I'd drive farther and ski more.

dmc ... when Gore is fully open (woods) it is a very fun place to be. Of course Gore is not alone in that regard.
