Taking son back to school on Sunday 13th so we're going to hit Greek Peak (never been) on the way up. looking for lodging options on Saturday night. Google Maps doesn't show much in the vicinity, any recommendations for cheap lodging within 10-20 minutes of the hill?

found this one - http://threebearinn.com/Motel.html

Three Bear Inn is in Marathon, about five miles from Greek Peak. I've stayed there a couple times when the roads were bad, and I knew I'd be coming back the next day. The accommodations are um, modest. One night I went to take a dump and the water in the toilet bowl was frozen over. I can't remember if I just shit on the ice, or what. They did give me a voucher for another night. If that sounds too scary for you, check for lodging in Cortland. It's about ten miles North of Greek. It's a larger town, should be accommodations there, its where the NY Jets preason camp has been the last couple years. The new lodge at the hill is pretty steep, though I hear they've been running deals on Groupon to drum up business. Might be worth looking into.

Where are you coming from? Binghamton is forty miles South, it's a decent sized city, more options there. Good luck, have fun at GP. It's not a bad little hill, the worst thing about it is their slow, archaic lifts. I see you live in CT, if coming West on NYS throughway, I90, you'll be hitting Syracuse, it's about 40 miles North of Greek. It's a larger metropolis than Binghamton. I'm sure there's tons of hotels/motels there.

I hope the r@!n and 40+° temps forecast for the end of the week don't kill things too bad by next weekend. It's been a stellar couple weeks at GP, 28" of snow over that time. It's been a treat skiing everything with zero ice. I'll take a bare spot here and there over ice any day. Looks like that's about to change with the upcoming thaw followed by an arctic blast. Such are the joys of East Coast skiing. Hey, at least it's actually snowed this year. Probably got more than last year already.

I see from your other thread, you'll be at Sugarbush and Stowe earlier in the week. GP will seem like a speed bump after skiing both of those. Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home, I guess.

Right now 9wsyr is forecasting 55 degrees for Syracuse on Sunday which would be pretty ugly but none of the other sites seem to put us up over 43. Still plenty of time for things to change up here though!

I live in Binghamton, I'm right in the middle of Greek and Elk, the two biggest resorts in the area. There are several smaller mountains between Greek and Syracuse, Song, Labrador, and Toggenburg. Song is the biggest of that bunch, all are considerably smaller than Greek. I used to take my Son to Song occasionally when he was learning because they took part in the mountains of fun program, I haven't been in years. I think we skied Lab once, don't believe I've skied Toggenburg. To answer your question, I assume most in Syracuse venture a little further South to ski Greek over the smaller hills, but I could be wrong.

Cornhead pretty much listed everything along the I-81 corridor and they're all pretty much the same to me since I'm a noob to both the area and snowboarding.

The weather is looking worse by the day but there is a place up in the Tug Hill region about 80 mins northeast of Syracuse called Snow Ridge that might be worth checking the conditions on late in the week. They're in a pretty major Lake Effect snow region off Lake Ontario so it might be slightly more viable. It's the only place around here I haven't been to but just something to consider given the circumstances.

Hey corn head, you coming to the summit?
I was thinking I have too much on my plate, I bought in on the FOX 44 deal, and the Warren Miller movie. That means I have vouchers for MRG, Sugarbush, Burke, Cannon, Smuggs, Jay, Gore(2), and Titus. I also hold a rain check for Whiteface. I was hoping to go to New Mexico in February too. Yikes! Maybe I should put the NM trip off another year. I could use the Cannon voucher, hit Saddleback, then hit the Summit. That would be a fun trip. I'll have to see. Is there a deadline for signing up? Should we start a thread for those looking for condo spots? I'd be flying solo. After seeing David Metsky's TR, I've been thinking about it. I had a great time last year, everyone was great, glad I crashed the party!
