Big weekend incoming. Good snow and snow in the metro areas which drives a lot of interest. Who's blacked out? I actually made reservations thinking this was the weekend before Presidents Day weekend and normally would not even attempt to go up had I gotten the dates right but I'm not going to cancel now. Will blackouts help the Ikon areas to which I have a full pass to? Certainly MLK weekend was busy but so was 2 weekends ago with no holiday. Also considering some audible's if the big boys are overwhelmed.

Can't speak for Ikon resorts, however I have noticed that since Epic blacked out some of their larger resorts on some of their passes for the "Big 3 Holiday Weekends" (New Years, MLK and Pres) that while crowded, the crowds have tended to be more along the lines of a slightly busy Saturday verses some of the BIG crowds that used to happen during those weekends, and now the biggest crowds of the year tend to fall on the non holiday Saturday when the weather is good and the snow is fresh.

The potential storm system that seems to be targeting more of Sunday than Saturday may also keep some of the day tripper volume down due to road conditions

Be ready with a backup plan. Blackouts might help but my home mountain sells out almost every weekend. if anything I'll pay cash at a local bump. Doubt they'll be much more busy than usual. People tend to want the big mountain feel.

I think the only question for you this weekend KS is that will the line for the Canyons base side run all the way up 224 and meet up the the line from the Park City side? ;)
I most likely will be teaching...maybe..
So ill be up there before the cows wake up..

Last week I told my wife that since I was gonna be skiing all of last weekend, I'd skip this coming weekend and hang with her, it being a 3 day weekend for her at least and Friday being that "chicks holiday" and stuff. I may or may not have thought to also mention that it's a blackout weekend but hopefully this will grease the gears for later weekends🤞 Ahhh the game of domestic compromise that in my experience most skiing dudes have to play😅

Magic had people parking in lot c and in the street this past weekend. I expect this weekend to be worse. That said, with ticket limits maybe it won’t be terrible. Never waited more than five minutes this past weekend, which was pretty amazing.

I'm blacked out (Ikon base) Sat-Sun, but not Monday. Dare I? Or just go to Berkshire East Monday?

Holiday weekends are great weekends to take off from skiing. Don't have to deal with the traffic on the slopes and lift lines, but even more importantly you don't have to deal with the traffic on the highways.

Yeah, I might hit Gunstock Wednesday and Thursday next week for an 8-10 sesh before it gets kooky but that's my max. Let the Massholes have it, otherwise

I'll ski cannon Monday and cannon or burke Wednesday. Tuesday I'm gonna do absolutely nothing for once.

Magic is now perfectly balanced. Parking, lifts, ticket limits. The only lift lines are at the usual periods and they are tiny. Too bad that little bus died because that was great from lot C.

This is exactly how Park City is. MLK weekend was no big deal, and MLK Monday was pretty much ski-on.

Per NOAA, 19" - 35" expected by this PDW Saturday though, so that could alter the calculus.

OMG, this post made me realize I havent had to think about or deal with hours of traffic on I-87 in eons.

Or getting stuck behind 18-wheelers on 2-lane Vermont roads with no hope of passing. Flashbacks. Bad flashbacks.

Honestly it seems like the Ikon blackouts have had a huge impact on MLK and President’s Day crowds where I ski (Sunday River). Those weekends are often less busy than a prime midwinter weekend. No complaints from me…
