Conditions: Packed Powder, 20's, partly cloudy, no wind
Gunstock was in nice shape today. Good coverage and pretty much 100% open. They got four inches a couple days ago, so the snow was soft.
I was trying out some demo skis there today. For $15 you can try pretty much whatever they've got for three hours. But they don't have much to choose from. Mostly just Head all mountain skis. I tried four different skis, but nothing really grabbed me.
I was also trying to work on getting better at skiing moguls. They have a pretty good line on Redhat which is a series of alternating steep and flatter sections, so I was practicing on the flatter stuff and bailing out on the steeper parts. Had it to myself for the most part. The bumps are somewhat irregular, but they suited my purpose just fine. Very exhausting to ski bumps when you don't have the skills yet. I'd start out feeling a little cold at the top and would be boiling hot and sweating by the time I got to the bottom.
The lodge was pretty crowded with lots of kids in the morning, but out on the hill they disappeared and the lifts were pretty much ski on all day. By about 2pm parts of the trails started to get scraped down to hardpack, so I called it a day.
Some pics:
Here's the bump line on the middle of Redhat. There are also some natural moguls at the start of Hot Shot and I think I saw some on Upper Ramrod as well.
Parallax Glades - These were in nice shape with lots of soft snow. Short but fun.
Can't remember exactly where this was, maybe Gunsmoke late in the day when things were getting scraped off.
