Got in a quick afternoon session at Gunstock today. I say quick because they closed for the day at 4PM. While I don't expect them to run night skiing operations this time of year, I think it would make better sense for the operating hours to be from 10-6, instead of 9-4; especially on a Friday. If they stayed open until 6, it might encourage some folks to bag work early, make some runs and maybe grab a beer and dinner in the bar. Oh well.......still happy I got out there. They actually had a pretty good crowd. The main parking lot was still about half full around 2:30 and most of the Pan chairs had people on them at 3:30.
The mountain was 100% open, but it might have been the last day for Hot Shot and Recoil Glades. They skied great, but both had sections where the snow pack was only 3-4 feet wide or so in places. Hopefully they just put up signs stating "some walking required" and open them for the weekend as for the most part, they skied really, really nice. Bumps on Red Hat were fantastic, there were also some bumps starting to form on Tiger Steeps, which was nice. I'd love to see them let Tiger Steeps bump up all season and keep the racing to Cannonball exclusively.
Base depths are still very good across the entire mountain with only few minor brown spots here and there. Skiing should be great this weekend and I imagine they'll still have quite a bit of terrain open for closing weekend next weekend.
Sorry, no pics
