GILFORD, New Hampshire -- Gunstock Mountain Resort is proud to host the Go-First Foundation (Global Online First Responder Student Training Foundation) and their first winter rescue series. GO-FIRST was developed in the wake of September 11th , 2001, to build upon the public's renewed respect for First Responders as important role models, we bring together students and First Responder mentors from multiple disciplines and duty stations in special camps that combine hands-on training in safety, health and security with character, career and service learning. Over 60% of GO-FIRST Students are girls and young women
Go-First New Hampshire is an organization that works with a select group of students. They present a combination of high-energy, "education by perspiration" challenges with leadership and teamwork training that, along with the supplemental multimedia, recognize and respect a wide diversity of learning styles, educational backgrounds and communities. The onsite camps present a progressive learning calendar that takes the students from first aid to emergency medical systems; search and rescue to humanitarian aid; home safety to community safety; personal health to environmental protection; and from physical fitness to readiness to lead in mission at home and abroad. The day at Gunstock will bring together Gilford and Laconia Fire and Rescue Squads and through participatory demonstration of Ski Area Safety Services, Ice Cold Water Rescue, and Low Angle Rescue enactments.
"This will be an exciting day for these students to experience and further their knowledge of these technical and often high stress situations. It prepares them to be ready for some of the toughest emergencies", says Pat McGonagle, program supervisor. Gunstock Marketing Director Bill Quigley says, "this will be great for the students but a fantastic opportunity for people to watch how these situations can result in a successful rescue. With the camp being scheduled on the first day of Massachusetts vacation, a large number of our guests can see how these great kids train to be future leaders in search and rescue."
