Looks like the developers hoping to turn Haystack ski area into a private ski community are going further down the tubes. From an article in the Brattleboro Reformer:

WILMINGTON -- The future is uncertain for a mountainous piece of land in Wilmington that is currently owned by the town, leased by Haystack Mountain Resort and dotted with chair lifts.
One Cornell, the company that owns Haystack Mountain Ski Area, told Selectboard members several weeks ago that it cannot make this year's lease obligation to the town of just under $22,000.
At a meeting Feb. 4, Selectboard members agreed to send a letter that said they are sympathetic, but the town needs the money, and a lease agreement cannot be broken. The letter gave One Cornell 30 days to respond.
Last year, One Cornell asked the board for an extension, which the board did not grant. It ended up paying the full amount of money owed to the town.
"A lot of people are having a hard time financially, but not paying leases or taxes puts a burden on everyone else," said Bob Rusten, town manager.
Rusten said he believes One Cornell may be interested in selling the land. Haystack was originally planning on building a resort that included private town houses and a private ski resort but have not been able to fulfill that, Rusten said.
He said Haystack owns a piece of property adjacent to the land owned by the town, but without that land, which has ski lifts allowing access to the top of the mountain, the plot currently owned by One Cornell is worth much less.
"Everybody would like to settle the issue as

amicably as possible, but I did not think it was inappropriate response (from the board). Right now, they can't say when they can meet the obligation," said Rusten.
One Cornell responded today in the form of a letter stating that it is "trying to find a way to address the lease obligation."
It said it will issue another written response within the next 10 days.
Rusten said the town would have no choice but to declare the lease null and void if One Cornell does not find a solution soon.
