This is unreal. Especially since he was in a 25 year old car. Although, given this crash, I think even if he were in a newer vehicle, a high degree of luck was in play here.

Vid is in the link. The car just breaks apart. There's a small pic of what's left.

:-o

It must have been a helluva sight to see happen. It's pretty amazing no one else was hurt or killed by flying car parts.

Poignant analysis. Excellent reporting. A true heartwarming story.

WOW!!! Probably the only thing that allowed him to survive (so far atleast) was it looks like before the car was obscurred in the dust cloud that when it launched into the air that it rotated so that it impacted the bridge passenegr side/under carriage 1st, thus atleast giving a small bit of crumple zone to attempt to absorb some of what have been massive decceleration forces placed on him.

Actually, the fact that he was ejected might have been his saving grace as that could mean he didn't receive all of the decceleration force. I read another article saying that he went slid clear across the highway and ended up on a berm across the lane. If you look at that video, there seems to be a large body sized object that does exactly that in the video.

Wow, pretty crazy crash! It's hard to believe that he wasn't under the influence of something, if you watch the video he didn't hit the brakes until he was already in the air.

That very much appears to be an attempted suicide. I can see that he may have lost control when passing the cruiser suddenly realizing he was in serious trouble, but the accuracy of the strike on the guardrail would somewhat indicate it was intentional. I hope the kid survives, gets help, and grows to be a happy well adjusted adult. Sad sad story.
