I love my Salomon Tornados. They r responsive and easy to turn, but rigid enough at speed so I'm not killed by chatter. Plus I get way more float then my last skis(atomic betacarve 8-18). My Tornados are 177.

The only place I feel they fall short is the trees. The float factor I feel could be better in the real softy soft. 177 is alright but I think I would benefit from a shorter, snapier turning radius.I guess , I am looking for some short twintip fatties, preferably used so I can ding em up nice this spring. Any suggestions?

K2 Extreme? It's the newer version of the Public Enemy IIRC. I want to say it's about 84mm underfoot. Seems like it would be a decent all mountain ski.

I wouldn't bother with a rocker ski in the east, certainly not for spring conditions which could be hard in the morning.Rockers are great for deep pow and thats about it.

Exactly! Just last weekend in spring conditions, I saw 2 telemarker skiers coming down a slope that was a little frim. 1 guy had wide rocker twin tips and the other guy had regular positive camber wide twin tips and you could see the positive camber skis carved so much better on that slightly firm surface.

isn't rocker and reverse camber the same thing?

check out that thread I posted the link to. I think the perception that rocker is only good in deep pow is not quite accurate.

In theory they are supposed to be the same ski. My K2 rep says they are identical. However, I have owned 2 pairs of the PE's, and have skied the Extremes on many conditions. The Extreme is way softer, and no where near the all mountain ski that the PE is.
They are 85mm under foot.

I demoed the Dynastar Sultan 85 in a 172 length and loved that ski in all conditions and all speeds and it would do fantastic short, medium and long radius turns. It was so easy to turn. NOW I find out the Sultan 85 might have a modified reverse camber (rocker) tip. I had no idea the Sultan was a bit of a rocker ski.

Just curious if you know, how does the K2 Apache Xplorer compare to the PE's and Extreme's?

Not true..although they do suck on ice they rock in spring soft stuff as I have been proving for a month now. I just bring my Volkls for the morning if its frozen then switch to the rockers.

That's interesting to know. I wonder why they changed that? The PE was a fairly popular ski.

I can tell you that I have been absolutely shocked by the quality of all mountain ski that the PE is. Mine is 85 under foot, and that is plenty of float for me. But you you can still carve like crazy in the morning before it softens up, and the ski has plenty of spring to it for quick turns in the trees. For a ski as wide as it is, it handles bumps quite well, too. It is probably the best all mountain ski I have ever skied. Sure, I prefer my bump skis in the bumps and sure at super high speeds it chatters, but its an awesome ski and, imo, it LIVES for peppy turns in crud and slush.

Quoted for truth.

To the OP: Better get your hands on those skis as soon as possible unless you want to be using them next season. Lots of deals out there now. The internet is your friend. My best regular camber tree ski is a Rossi B4, 94 in the waist, forgiving and easy to twist around in tight spots. Of course, I can start praising reverse camber in spring slush but I don't have the energy for that now.

Extremes

I bought a pair earlier this month online from Aspen ski and Boards (in Columbus OH -- go figure ..)

179's w/ solly sth12s mounted at my door for $379 (w/ a set of poles thrown in too).

I really like them. I bought them to ski woods and chop but they perform all around the mountain. No they're not powder skis but they don't suck in fresh snow and they hold an edge just fine on the hard stuff.

I bought them after skiing PEs in the same length a few times and I don't feel any difference. ('Cept I don't feel as gansta on the extremes.)
