Prolly the wrong forum, but I know a bunch of you in here know the answer so here it goes.

I'm looking for a remote hands-free attachemt for my Sony Handycam so I can make a ski vid.

I tried the search option and didn't see what I was looking for. I remember seeing a thread in here this past year on a link for several remote attachements for helmet cam ops.

So....thanks in advance.

how much does the handycam weigh? You don't want to be carrying a brick up there.

maybe just get a screw the right size for your tripod mount and figure out how to fashion it to your helmet
or..

how about something like this?

The cam is small...abouth the size of my palm, but I just "hefted" it...I wouldn't want that on the top (or side) of my helmet all day.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll keep hunting and eventually get something done. No hurry.

check out the RCA Small Wonder EZ201. it;s a flash disk based recorder, the same as the Flip but i think the memory cards are removable. you can get them on amazon for about 89$.

a coworker of mine used the ATC unit on a whitewater rafting trip. it survived.

some other choices in flash disk camcorder/recorders-

samsung has SC-MX10 that I have seen on sale from circuit city for about 229$. the cool thing about this is that claims to have have optical zoom which is a feature missing from most digital cameras. i might have purchased this if i hadn;t purchased a DGX 505V for about 119$.

it can use AA batteries, has an RCA video in/out, and records ASF files to SD card. it;s also a 5 mp camera and has a swivel LCD screen. quality has been decent.

if your Sony handy cam can take video in, you might want to consider getting a lipstick camera and mounting that to your helmet. that way, you don;t have your camera exposed to the cold. i have one I bought on ebay for about 168$, connected to a Mustek PVR-A1 flash disk recorder. the Mustek PVR-A1 is cheap but the user interface and battery life sucks.

goodluck!
