My lower back issues are caused by tight hamstrings. The seasons that I bike more the worse my back gets in the fall. Crazy I am in better shape those years but then my back hurts and I have to shut it down for a few weeks. Less issues when I am fat and out of shape
Ya I here you there Smelly. I still bike year round and I used to have issues with knee alignment and back. I had to do a very structured regime of hami and calf work to balance out my leg because my quads were so strong they were pulling my body out of alignment. Now I need to start work on my core and shoulders to get rid of that pain.

100% notice a difference when I stack on a post ride stretch class after I do a Peloton cycling class(es) - defintely is now a part of my post ride cool down process
The Peloton app has mobility classes I recently noticed. Haven't tried yet but put a few in my queue. That could help with my issues also.

Two years ago I suffered considerably after a couple hours skiing , similar to what you described. I have some low back degenerative issues but since I’ve accidentally discovered an exercise . Laying on my back on the floor using a barbell with roughly 30lbs . Lift the weight from my knees over my head to the floor keeping my arms straight up. Basically strengthening my lower back muscles, I’ve had no problems skiing since . I ski bumps a lot and pretty aggressively overall . I’m a good bit older than you , I’m not saying that this will work in your case but I had pretty serious pain that’s at least postponed for a while I hope.

I have had a lot of back issues until I found an excellent Physical Therapist who put me on a stretching and core strengthening routine that I still use. Core strength and flexibility have helped me avoid the pain and surgery so far. He told me that I, like many others that work at a desk all day, usually have very tight hip flexors. Every morning I use a foam roller with ridges to massage and release the hip flexors. Video example below:

So..this is beyond weird.
Ive had pretty bad right knee pain for a while..need a new one. Yesterday went to Alta and by the time I got home I was in severe pain. Couldnt ski as well as I wanted..but thats been the whole season.
Today I skipped having any coffee...and The pain was minimal. Skied better than ever.
I have no idea why. Caffeine?

I’ll be 55 in March and reasonably fit. Something new this year is a very low back pain on one side.

After some reading I’m pretty sure this is being caused by hip mobility so I’ll be doing some exercises for that starting soon.

Anyone else have hip issues affecting their skiing?
tumeric w black pepper - my doc prescribed Curcumin 500 mg each w bioperine ( pepper) 5 mg - I take two - hip pain gone within 6 weeks. . . . . thats me tho. helps with all the joints - knees especially after years of pounding Mall/type bumps. . .

not sure about that but my doc also said limit or remove inflammatory foods and you'll see a difference in your wrist ( arthritis ) and other joints and he was spot on. Just like starchy foods like bread and pasta. . . . .

No idea about caffeine, but I do know that stretching my calves seems to help my knees.
