Since all I read about Killington..is how shitty it is..I checked out Blu Knob on line. They don't groom much and with the recent dump it looks like conditions might be the best around. Does anyone ever ski there. I'm thinking of changing my plans for next week and going there. Its about the same distance from me. I think the Poconos for now might be the place to be..although they don't have the vertical..they do have the snow.

Blue knob is NOT the Poconos....it is close to Pittsburgh. If driving that far west also check out Seven Springs. Elk Mountain in the Northern Poconos is a great mountain but has not gotten as much snow as BK or SS.

I skied Elk for the first time on Tuesday and conditions were great, and that was the day before the snowstorm.

define close

I lived right near 7 Springs for a winter. Maybe I'm wrong, but I recall BK being about 3 hours east of Pittsburgh. Pretty much in the middle of the sate.

When I lived down there, I was curious about the place as well. Espcially the 'bowl'

I guess I should have added an "r" to say "closer" to Pittsburgh. Its right by Atoona, PA and I skied it once several years ago. Decent mountain....I believe the biggest verticle in PA and interesting as all the lodging and roads are at the summit. You basically ski down to the valley but come back to the top to end your day. We had fun there for a couple of days.

Good and Bad

I go to Blue Knob every now and then. It has some nice terrain for PA (longer runs and some steeper, narrower stuff), however, it isn't always mainained very well. The lodge is rather run down and the top 1/3 of the moutain tends to get wind blown and a little icy. As long as you don't care about the amenties, don't mind some bumps (they tend not to groom much), and go when there has been some fresh snow it can be a great resort. That being said you can also have a bad experience. It's kind of hit or miss.
