Long Island Man Wins Coney Island Sand-Sculpting Contest
NEW YORK (AP) -- When it comes to castles, Frank Russo is king.
The Long Island man took first place among adults in the annual sand sculpting contest on Coney Island on Saturday. It was the 53-year-old construction worker's third victory in a row.
Russo built an elaborate castle that stood 6 feet high. He plans to use the $400 prize to take his wife out for an anniversary dinner.
Ten-year-old Cassie Deshong of Coney Island won the kid's category. Her sculpture was based on the nursery rhyme about a dish running away with a spoon.
