It's already been said, but HUGE difference. Much steeper, much more expert stuff, much more remote and wild. Like skiing out west in some respects.

Apart from the expert trails, Sugarloaf has easy cruising across the entire bottom half of the mountain from east to west, about 1100 vertical feet on at least 15 separate runs. In other words, comparable to Okemo. Two high speed quads serving much of that, and two old doubles. Plus Tote Road and Binder from the top and the Timberline trail pod on the upper half of the mountain. Plus great scenery and a wilderness feel to it.

See, fun for the whole family! :)

Don't forget to mention as well that from Philly the west is much closer time wise. (the reason I've never gone to the Loaf from the NY area)

Coming from Pennsylvania? To Sugarloaf? You understand how far away Sugarloaf is, right?

That said, there's really no comparing Sugarloaf to Okemo. Sugarloaf has

  • Much steeper terrain (although I've always found that most of the trails have a pretty long run-out to them)
  • Much better un-groomed terrain (see: Snowfields, although they aren't open all that often).
  • Wind and cold that dwarfs what Okemo usually gets. Sugarloaf can go on wind-hold quite a bit.
  • Absolutely nothing to do there except ski. There's no nearby town.
so you missed Kingfield, Stratton, Eustis,Bigelow ?
