Just bought a new pair of boots today (Fischer MV Pro with stock Zip-Fits) along with a new snowboard and skis and it got me thinking how large is everyones quiver. Now I’m sitting at 6 pairs of skis; Dynastar M-Cross 82s, Nordica Enforcer 93s, Salomon QST 98s, G3 Findr 102s, Dynastar M-Free 108s and Bent Chetler 120s. Have Salomon S-Pro 120s and Scarpa Maestrale RS boots along with the new ones. Plus a Never Summer board and a Capita Outerspace Living. Probably will consolidate my ski quiver a little since 70% of the time I’m just on the Salomons (they are really fun skis if anyone has thought about getting them). Looking forward to trying out the new M-Cross 82s I got since I love the M-Frees. But aside from all that how is everyones quiver looking? Mine has become more tailored to Utah conditions since moving here but I loved the Enforcers back East.

Own or use are two different things. I've got a graveyard of skis in storage. Some dating back to 1993. I keep telling myself I'll turn them into furniture, but never have. Gifted away a few pairs over the years and sold one set, but probably have like 7 old pairs collecting dust.

Active skis - 4 pairs

Head iRally - carving ski
Volkl Kendo 88 - all mountain ski
Volkl M102 - powder aki
Nordica Doberman GSM Piston - Beer league racing ski

One set of boots. Nordica Speedmachine 130S

Pretty pleased with my current quiver. I want for nothing.

How many days do you ride per season?

I have a hard time justifying buying any ski I won't use a minimum of 5 times a season. I actually likely won't end up using the M102 five times this year. There were a couple of deeper days than expected that I wished I had them, but it was mainly because I wasn't able to time storms well.

If I was retired and skiing 60+ days a year, I'd probably consider adding a FIS SL skis to do some Masters SL races and a WC Bump ski.

In the regular rotation currently:

Skis:

Peak 88's (my primary "daily driver" this season)
Atomic Maverik 95's - my other daily driver especially when it's a little softer snow
Kastle FX 106 - Powder and wet Spring snow ski
Head iSpeed Supershape - My hard snow carving ski

Those are my 4 primary pairs I use throughout the season, I have another 1/2 dozen or so pairs that I do take out maybe a day or 2 every season for more niche snow situations

Boots: Atomic Hawx Ultra 130's with Zipfit liners

Boots: Atomic Hawx 110. Richelson’s has them fitted perfectly, I wish they’d last until I die.

Stockli Laser AX
Stockli Stormrider 95
Rossi Soul 7s (need replacing they’re skiing kind of lifeless)

I have 3 stets of boots.
Nortica Pro Macines for my ski boot.
I also have a Nortica ST Rider AT boot which is much lighter with walk mode for up hilling and my older Scarpa AT boots that are very light for longer uphill days.
Without listing all the skis I have
2 pairs AT setup Both K2
2 pairs of Front side skis Black Crows and Salomon
4 plus pairs of beat up skis that still function. Meaning no blown edges or massive core shots.

So clearly I'm missing some important thing here. I've always had one pair of boots and one pair of skis and that works fine. I could see having a set of powder skis if I regularly skied outside New England, and of course uphill or backcountry requires different equipment entirely, but other than that, what's the point of multiple pairs of skis or boots?

You're not entirely wrong for northeast skiing, it's a matter of preference. One pair of boots is all you obviously need. And if you're solely a frontside skier, you could get away with one pair of skis around 90-95 underfoot, which can handle 6 inches of snow just fine and IMHO is the sweet spot for Jack-Of-All_Trades.

If you're intermediate groomer only, I'd go down to 75-80 underfoot and not worry about the few powder days per year. But if you're advanced & ski a lot and want to be able to have a "best" ski for all conditions, even in the east I think you need 3 pairs (the 2 previously mentioned, and then a wider ski around maybe 105 or so for float on powder days and tree skiing powder a day or two even afterwards).

well I'm selling a business in May and expect to get alot more days in next year and beyond. especially days away from lifts.

I'm also trying to make sure I have enough complete setups and gear to have gear ready to go at NY home (closest to airport), at VT house and possibly stashed in truck / camper van at airport long term parking someplace out west.

haven't figured it all out yet really.

having underutilized equipment isn't the worst thing. it's not like it's going bad. tech has matured and besides step in bindings I'm not sure what's next.

compare it with cycling where if you have a custom frame or mtb, it will be hard to find components after a few years because the change the standards.

a few underutilized older snowboards ride just as well and accept new bindings and tunes fine. and ride like new boards. no loss there.

where as I can't find a new suspension fork to fit my 10yo frame and wheels.

Try and find a backup liner. My boots have also been custom fit by Richelson. Fearing future changes in the model design plus all I have invested in the shell work, I bought unused stock Speedmachine liners for $75 last month . A guy bought the boots but was installing Zipfits and had the liner for sale. I will have roughly 120 days on my original shells and liners by end of season. The liners are getting pretty packed out. I consulted Paul and he said as long as the shells are in good shape, I could go this route. So, I just bought myself three more seasons in the boots I love for cheap. Then I'll likely need to start over.

One pair of boots from GMOL, Rossignol Hi speed 130. I used to buy a new pair of skis every 3 or so years and the old ones became my rock skis.

Now I have Rossignol experience 80 for frozen and rocks
Rossignol black ops 90 for most days and woods
Nordica enforcer 100 for powder and likely spring slush

My basement has a long pair of dynastar courses, and volkl supersports
