I guess I consider myself an anomaly in that I'm really not big on the latest and greatest in ski gear. I don't feel like I need to be in the current model ski, boot, binding, helmet, goggles etc. I don't have a "boot fitter", I just simply try them on and buy them when my current boots get old (every 4 seasons or so). It's the same with skis. I don't have a particular brand loyalty and I'll pick up a new pair every 4 - 5 seasons depending the condition of my current skis. I do feel that shape, length, sidecut etc are important but as long as I'm still having fun and enjoying my current gear that's all that matters. For me, The Ski Mag gear guide just simply means summer is over and winter is around the corner. I guess I'm less in tune with the technical aspects of the sport as I am with the overall experience of skiing (the joy of gliding down a snowy mountain, the views etc...and I do feel most topics on this site are are geared towards the "experience" which is why I love AZ). Just wondering if I'm alone in this. How much of a gear guy / gal are you?

I'm not a huge gear nut...some seasons I don't buy new skis and some seasons I buy two pairs of skis. I had my Lange boots for 4 seasons and I only paid $70 for them from a buddy who worked in a ski shop in Montana. I just bought new Atomic boots for $199..When it comes to gear, I'm all about getting awesome deals..whether it's closeouts at ski shops or online..I'm actually into goggles alot..I think I've bough 5 pairs of goggles in the past 3 years..

I'm with you on this, probably even less of a gear fanatic than you. I'm not a gear nut at all. I had my last pair of skis for 6-7 years, and I'm sure I will have this pair for the same amount of time. The only reason I replaced my ski pants is because there's a big hole in the crotch and I'm too lazy to sew. I really like the stuff I have and don't like replacing it... but I'm like that with everything so it doesn't surprise me much that I don't care for new ski gear.

not a gear head at all. I've had the same boots for 8 years and i bought those used. I bought new skis this year but the ones i had for the last 2 seasons were cooked. I dont own ski pants, i just use wind pants. I dont even know, off the top of my head, what kind of bindings were on my volants last year.

I am a huge gear head. Skiing, climbing, biking, fishing, you name it. If I am into it, I can tell you all about all the gear. I read about in magazines, on the internet, post about it in forums. I love gear. Fixing it, modifying it, whatever. Lets not forget spending money on it...I need a 12 step program. I honestly said I wasn't going buy any more ski gear this season. What a joke. Since that statement I have bought AT boots, helmet, goggles, skis, bindings, new booster straps, binding drill bits, etc.

I am currently a gear person, but only because I can afford it right now. Back when I was a bit younger I didn't really care what I had.

People guy gear to cover up their bad skiing technique. Anyone that owns more than one or two pairs of skis is just trying too hard to be cool. Stop wasting money on gear and learn how to ski instead.

Nothing about technique, it's the wanting the shiny new thing out there. It's not not about blaming your bad skiing on skis, it's about having an alpine setup, an AT setup, a deep powder setup, a BC setup, a Tele setup... because you just like the gear.

And like DEVO, for me it's not just skiing, it's all the other sports too - in sports gear I probably have spent around $6-7K in the last 2 years.

I'm the opposite of you in this regard. I love new gear.

The best skiers I know have several pairs of skis. I couldn't get by with just one pair..what if that pair broke..then I'd be high and dry for a few days until a new pair was FedEx's or stuck on Saloman Verse rentals or demos. With skis being so so so cheap at online sites like Steep and Cheap dot com it's not that expensive to get a quiver going..

I have three pairs of skis, looking to get a forth and don't think i'm tryng to cover of my technique at all. One alpine set, one touring set, one everyday use set and looking to add a powder set up. I have the disposable income to buy this stuff and think i know how to ski pretty well.

Total gear head here. Diff skis, boots, hats, gloves, jackets etc. There are soooooo many different kinds of conditions we run into here I guess I feel the need to be prepared for anything.

Not a gear geek, but I have alot. MTB. 1 single speed. I ride trail, dirt jump and commute on it. Climbing gear, cause you need it. I have 5 pairs of skis. 2 Axiomes that have been delamed and cut short, a pair of Powder plusses I just scored for 25 bucks, some Karhu BC 100 I bartered a w/e of catering for, and my xc skis (Alpina cross terrains) I am on my third season on my boots. Leather Alicos with 2 buckles, and my skins are the same age. 2 Kayaks, bucause you need a creeker AND a playboat. And a shit load of soft goods. The key is to USE it. I know lots of people with a room full of crap they never use. That=Lame IMO.
