I to drive the Taconic all the time going up from NYC. Yes it's good to go to Mt. Snow that way. Same way you'd drive to Killington but not as far obviously. When you get just north of Hoosic after being on rt.22 & are on NY 7 cutting west don't go on the new road (279 I think is the number). Instead go the old way before the new road was built. Make the right onto I think it's VT.9 where the new road begins which goes to Bennington, VT. Just stay on Rt.9 through Bennington & continue till you hit Mt.Snow. Much faster than the thruway I think since you're not going as far west just to cut back to the east.

You'd go the same way from north of Hoosic even if you took the thruway/northway.

Hope that makes sense since I'm not good at remembering road numbers. I just know where I'm going most of the time.

Have a good trip Scotty. I'll be going to VT. early tomorrow morning myself but will be well north of you ( not sure exactly where yet).

edit: be careful with your speed on the Taconic because smokey has been all over that road lately. I find if I set my cruise at 62-63mph they won't bother you.

Oh & be careful going through the Queechee Lake short cut as there's been a cop hanging out there lately also (35mph speed limit in there).

I live in Poughkeepsie and travel the taconic to 22 and north route all the time. If you are coming from Middletown east on 84 getting on the thruway is going to be way faster. You can go way faster and dont have to slow down for small towns and twisty roads.

Take 84-NYS-7 through troy-279-9-100
That way is 176 miles and 3 hrs 50 mins. from google maps

The Taconic-295-22-7-279-9-100 way will take you right past my winter driveway, and way longer.
187 mi, 4 hours 17 mins
