He (and most of the rest of the A and B team from Killington) departed this morning from BOS bound for Whistler. Also some kids from Sunday River (I'm guessing they're affiliated with CVA?) I'll report back here with updates (and maybe some pics) from the camp.

He got busted for his toothpaste going through security. Its all good though, he doesn't like brushing his teeth anyway :)

Did he have a giant toothpaste tube?

I bring toothpaste onto planes every week... No problemo...

They told him it has to be less than 4 ounces. I guess only "travel size" toothpaste need apply...

Probably an extra $25 surcharge for those now too!
The interesting thing is that it really is going to save the airlines huge amounts of money. My company just released revised travel guidelines that stipulate the company will only pay for checked luggage if the trip is more than two days. Otherwise, bring a carry on or pay for checked luggage yourselves. While the change is sure to piss off travel consumers that don't have a choice, I think the airlines stand to save a ton of money from business travelers going with a carry on only to save money if they can not get reimbursed.

Is Iceman going back to the PSI camp? From the looks of it, they have some great credentials.

re: PSI camp - yes. Not sure what the diff between PSI and PSI-Bandit is (except the Bandit group is run by K folks) but when they get there its all the same group.

re: Sunday River - yes you're right. I'm not sure of the exact make up of the group but I'll have more info when he gets back (hopefully)

Unless the airlines stand by their word this time to seriously enforce the carry on luggage size, I think you're going to find and awful lot of pushing to get on first and fighting for overhead space. I think there are going to be a lot of PO'd folks.

I always check my bags partly because I'm not in such a damn hurry and partly because I'm lazy. I also don't light competing for space. Life is too short to get stressed over luggage, if you want my shorts, they're yours. I always carry anything valuable onboard anyways.

I've been logging 50,000+ miles per year in the United star alliance program. I get to board the plane first to put my stuff in the overhead. I get the 'economy plus' coach seat with an extra 4" of leg room. On a business trip, I rarely check bags since the odds are high that the airline will vaporize my luggage once or twice per year with the amount of travel I do. I did two trips last year where I brought my boot bag and a roll-aboard on the plane and snuck out to grab a day or two on demo skis.

If I'm not flying United where I get to check ski gear for free (or Southwest where they don't charge), I'm planning to start using FEDEX to get my gear to the ski resort. If you use FEDEX ground, you can get a 30 pound ski bag to Utah in 5 days for around $45.00. With skis, poles, and spare clothing in the bag, you can carry your boot bag on the airplane and be at the ski resort in an hour. Places like Deer Valley even give you a comp first day if you show them a boarding pass for that day and you can ship directly to the Snow Park Lodge.

Update: He called this morning while riding the second chairlift (he has to ride 2 chairs, then take a bus, then another chair to finally get to the Horstman glacier) and said he was amazed at the amount of snow that remains on the sourrounding mountains. He's taking a lot of pics, and even tried to text a pic to me but for some reason I haven't gotten it yet.

Stay tuned

Yeah - the funny thing is, each one of those lines you see (probably 4 bumps wide or so) is an entire camp. The closest one was his PSI camp, then the one next to it is Mogul Logic, then Momentum etc. Actually Momentum had the most real estate. lots of jibbing etc as well as moguls.
