I'm skiing Sunday River next year. Killington = Fail.

About 10.

I went to school in Maine and we pretty much went to Sugarloaf every time we skied.

I know enough about SR to know I don't like it.

Sunday River is to Gore as Sugarloaf is to Whiteface (mind you no first hand knowledge of the NY areas, just going off of stats and first hand reports.

You prefer Gore don't you?

Hmmm...early opening...late closing...good lift system, lots of terrain, great snowmaking...yeah, that place sucks!

I didn't say it sucked, I just said I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I can think of at least 10 mountains in the east that I'd rather spend a season at (which is what HS seems to be trying to decide).

I don't mean any personal disrespect towards you (or anyone else who skis there), I just don't like the mountain and that's my opinion. I, too, find it hard to make the extra 1 hour drive to a supposedly "better" mountain (I almost always go to Gore instead of Whiteface), so I know where you are coming from there. Whatever floats your boat, though, man. A lot of people probably like Stratton too. Whatever you're into is cool with me.

Ha!!! I just made that point myself.

But there is a weird difference. The people at Sugarloaf (talking about staff, clientele, instructors) seem more like the people at Gore, and the people at Whiteface seem more like the people at Sunday River.

Not trying to make sweeping generalizations or anything, but enjoy that sweeping generalization . . .

Hey, I like Stratton. Maybe I should get a house in that area, and a pass to Stratton, Bromley, and Magic.

No, really!

Well on the bright side, it'll be much easier designing an interconnect at SR.

I guess I rarely pay all that much attention to people. Outside of Killington and all the damn Yankee fans

As long as my individual company is good, the riff raff going on around me will largely be ignored unless someone is cutting me off on trail or in a lift line. Nothing a well timed F U won't resolve most of the time.

That's pretty much how I felt when I was in college and had skied SR about 10 times...4 years of school (UMF) did all of my skiing at SL but worked in a shop at SR...then I lived at SR for a year and got to know the place better and appreciate it much more.
I wouldn't write it off like that...but then again I wouldn't drive from NY through VT and NH to go to SR any sooner than I'd drive from ME through NH and VT to ski anywhere over there. After living in Portland for a number of years I didn't find the extra hour drive to SL to be worth it.

Hmmm...early opening...late closing...good lift system, lots of terrain, great snowmaking...yeah, that place sucks!

If Sunday River received another 100" of natural snow, I would have changed mountains years ago. I prefer trees and ungroomed natural snow trails. When they're open, the trees at Sunday River are great fun but you end up spending far too much time on a manmade surface.

I probably should have bailed out of Killington years ago to somewhere farther north in Vermont that better aligns with my preferences but I have all the inertia of my social circle at Killington that makes it tough to leave. It's been my winter home for almost 30 years.

can't understand how I misinterpreted that...

,
none taken personally..just lobbying for the home hill..and when you know an area better, you ski it better, read it better, and know how to maximize its potential.

h2o for the boat... never understood that... going to bull fights on acid
