I'm not an Apple Fanboy, but this is an interesting topic.

My wife and both have BlackBerries; Bold 9700's. Great phone, but the app selection is meh and the small screen. However, BlackBerry Messenger is rock friggin' solid. It's how we keep in touch during the day.

I've been reading a lot on iOS5 over the last few weeks and it seems they've address two big issues(IMHO) Push notifications, wireless syncing. We have an iPad. Why it needs to be plugged in to update/sync baffles me. Wireless sync makes so much sense. The very BBM like messenger system looks pretty darn slick as well.

We're "upgradable" this fall. I'm actually kicking around iPhone this time. Sure, there's the flash issue, but with the other two resolved, it's less of a concern.

Blackberry, I think, is going to crash and burn big time in the near future. They haven't adapted at all IMO to the changing market.

Yeah, looking forward to the new iPhone specs. Some blogs say "big update to the hardware", others say "slight refresh....bigger update in 2012". Ahhh, rumors!

RIM has been getting hammered in the press lately. I think if they can shuffle things around, maybe get some new ideas and launch that QNX in time, they can be the comeback story of the decade. But that's going to take a lot of work. I think their biggest issue was thinking they had a lock o the business market. Now, a lot of businesses are switching to iPhone or Driod. I know my company is going to iPhone soon.

I'm still trying to figure out RIM's "Co-CEO" thing. Is that something Canadian?

Were still Blackberry only because of security. Enterprises would have to be insane to go with Android unless they do very heavy customizations themselves. Apple iCrap is still locked down and overpriced, go with WP7.

I'm even considering getting an iPhone this summer and Apple has always rubbed me wrong.

Before I do that I'm waiting to see how the HP Pre 3 shakes out. It's got the form factor I want and WebOs has some fierce fans.

My wife loves her Palm smart phone. There's just not a ton of apps for them.

WebOS is interesting, just too far out for me to look at when I bought this phone.

If you're waiting for IOS 5 anyways, I'd wait another month and see what the Mango WP7 update is like. There are still a few features the OS is missing, but that should change and you're just left with the most tightly integrated, user friendly phone around.

One of the guys in our IT dept writes apps for windows phones. He says it's a great platform, but thinks it'll be a bit before the apps catch up to what the others have to offer.

Angry birds next Thursday!

Apps aren't bad, pretty much everything I want. Just need a LED flashlight.

What phone did you get with which carrier? I'd be quite alright skipping Apple and giving WP7 a try.

I've been frustrated looking for a decent portrait slider phone like the BB Torch, for example. I might have given that a try but AT&T is a no-go in my town. That puts the Pre 3 at the top of my list for portrait sliders assuming it comes to Sprint or Verizon.

I've got a Samsung Focus with AT&T, Verizon hadn't started carrying WP7 yet when I got it (and apparently, good luck trying to get a salesperson to talk to you about a WP7 phone instead of forcing you to look at Android or iPhone; wouldn't be surprised if it's the same with Palm/HP.)

There should be a better selection coming out this fall along with the software update, across all carriers.

As a Mac zealot, yeah I admit it, I am looking forward to this along with Lion and especially the new iCloud. As they said in the keynote speach...it just works.

The latest nerdy debate is if the iPhone 5 will be "all new" or just refreshed iPhone 4....the 4s perhaps?

I just picked up my first MacBook Pro last week, pretty easy to figure stuff out and am liking it so far!

Since I am due for an upgrade now, I am following this debate with a lot of interest. Can it compete with the top tier Android offerings? Only time will tell. I sure hope so.

The upgrades in iOS 5 look beyond worth waiting for. Notifications, which had been abysmal, look functional and much more user friendly. Since a majority of my friends/ colleagues use iphones, the iMessage functionality looks useful. I appreciate the changes to the calendar/ reminder as well as the wireless updating.

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat. The messanging really sold me...as did the wireless updates. But like you mention, will the hardware be up to snuff? There are a few Driod phones that have a bigger screen.

There's also the 4g question. However, the jury is out on that: Many say 4G isn't ready for prime time yet due to limited markets. And 4g phones tend to really eat through the battery life.

I have the Evo 4G(Sprint) and in little Southington I have 4G coverage. Found 4G to be really fast opening pages/pics and streaming vids and don't notice it using up more battery than 3G while surfing the internet. but if you leave it on all the time it does use up the battery pretty quick. It only takes 2 seconds to tun it on and off so when I'm done I just switch it back to 3G.

If we can find a way to lure Paul back(maybe an endless supply of IPA beers and smoked foods?) I am sure he can give us some insights on 4G phones.
