Note: If you don't want to know who won or how BM did, then don't read on.
If past years I would already be working on Saturdays but I applied for a diferent job this year so I decided to check out the the Winterstart Downhill up at Lake Louise while I was doing some PC maintenance.
Good place to have the first race as the northern PNW is pretty much the area of NA that has alot of early season snow. Mt Baker BTW is reporting a 100"+ base. It was, however, unusually cold as it was -2F during the race.
Without Ralves it looks like the US Downhill Team will not do very well this year. BM has the potential to do well but not this race, he switched this year from Atomic to Head. Commentators said he is the best shape of his life. The 2 other Americans who I have never heard of were not a factor.
It was won by Beuchal the "old man"from Liechanstein(sic), amazingly the 24th racer down. A young Canadian and starter #3 was in first most of the race and thought by the time Beuchal started he had it in the bag. An Italien was third. The Austrians did not have a good race.
