The trouble is stopping at 24oz. That's just 1 1/2 pints.
That's not news. I've known that for a long, long time.
A Toucan told me so.
Actually, I've had many other nursing mothers recommend Guinness for maintaining (or promoting) sufficient milk supply. There's a lot of debate as to how much alcohol actually makes it into the milk, but most feel that as long as you wait an hour between drinking it and nursing, you should be fine (just like a typical beer wears off in your blood in about an hour).Pregnant women and nursing mothers were at one stage advised to drink Guinness - the present advice is against this.
It's high in vitamin B, too. Apparently a pipnt a day is prescribed for psoriasis, too, which makes sense- one trigger is stress, and a pint (or 6) does a good job of reducing stress. If nothing else, sitting down long enough to have one is calming all by itself. There's nothing better than the happy feeling from one pint after a long day. Except maybe the happy feeling after 9.
People complain that Guinness is so heavy, but in fact it's got fewer calories than skim milk and is light enough to float on champagne. I do not, however, recommned drinking many Black Velvets. Tasty as all hell, but man, the hangover will kill you. Worse than Dark and Stormies, which has nothing to do with Guinness, but generates a mean hangover.
Nothing worse than some schmuck using Ginger Ale and trying to pass it off...
