Area Skied: Jay Peak
Surface Conditions: Groomed/Icy
Went to Jay Peak for 2 days during a one week vacation in VT. Haven't been to Jay in quite awhile, really like this mountain. The conditions weren't the greatest, but still managed to have a really good time.
A friend was able to get a real good deal on a slope side condo which made this trip extra good, nothing like ski on/ski off. Jay got a fair amount of rain the day before we got there. As a result tree skiing was pretty much out of the question, too icy. The first day the tram was on hold all day due to high winds because of the winds, we stuck to the State side more. Trails there were real nice for the most part. Most trails were nicely groomed and easy to ski, others were very icy. One nice exception was Derick Hot Shot, ungroomed, bumps and soft snow. The Jet and Haines were nice before they got scraped off about noon time. Kitzhuehel, was no fun at all, frozen bumps and thin cover. Day one, was good for most of the day, we skied until about 3:30. By about 2pm the trails did start getting scraped off, Goat Run just got plain dangerous. Day two we got off to an early start, love that ski on stuff . Trails were in fantastic shape due to some overnight grooming, however it got crowded really quick on this day, as a result, we only stayed until about 11:00 and headed back to Killington for another 4 days of skiing.
