Date(s) Skied: Saturday 12/3/11

Resort or Ski Area: Jay Peak, VT

Conditions: Slick, PP at the bottom, sunny, 30s

Trip Report:

Didn;t bother getting out of bed till late because I knew I either had to get up there right at opening or it would suck with it being just Jet. Really didn't have the urge to wake up at 7, so slept in and rolled into the parking lot at 12:30. The conditions reaffirmed my decision to stay in bed... slick as all hell and a decent crowd of people sliding all over the place (including me, maybe I should get a tune for once ;)). The last 1/5 of the run had some better packed powder to carve, but the top 4/5th plain sucked. Haines looks like it's almost ready, so that should help things out.

BTW, the Tramside base area is a MAZE right now. For someone who's only been over there once (and that was before the new additions), getting to customer service to pick up a season pass is a wicked pain in the ass. If you can actually find a place to park, then you gotta go either around or through about 3 different buildings to get to it. And if you end up in the waterpark like I did you're going the wrong way. :)

Anyways, hopefully things will be better next weekend. If Burke's open I'll probably just go there and ski Willoughby as it will be much less crowded than Jet. If not IDK if I even want to go back to Jay until they get a little more open.

Yikes! That's a heck of a wrong turn. Did you at least bring your swim suit?

I wish I did... the waterpark would've been a hell of a lot better than the conditions were lol. Might have to book a night at Hotel Jay seeing as it's only $90 something dollars and includes the waterpark. Can't beat that.

The water park is definitely worth checking out. We did it thanksgiving weekend after skiing the jet for a few hours. You have to do "La Chute".

Or you can buy a day ticket for just the waterpark for $35 if you don't need lodging according to their website.

Agreed! I've been at Jay all my life... and i kind of get lost! No signs. Nothing to let you know how to circle around to get to the front of the tram where customer service... the fact that you have to walk through the hotel for most everything is also a real pain... and for the architect who designed the damn thing: Why wouldn't you build decent stairs to go down one floor from lobby to main floor where the bar is? That's just a bad design... the lobby should have great stairs to welcome you to the bar and restaurant... you shouldn't discover that after taking the elevator... or using the stairs that were put in the back because of requirement that make you feel like you're in a shady appartment complex basement.

Anyhow... It's a maze and the skiing sucks right now... sorry about being moody.
